Thanks to information received from list members and some registration
certificates I can now expand my initial list of surnames of interest to
include the following in the period 1790-1860 in an area along the A379.
BOOLDS and BOON in the area of Modbury and Holbeton. Samuel Boon was a
keeper of horses who later became an omnibus proprietor
GODFREY in the area of Ottery St Mary. William Godfrey was a tailor
DONEY in the area of Holbeton, and they were agricultural labourers
BOWDEN in the area of Devonport and Plymouth. Thomas Bowden was in the
I note that Devon folk have a fine sense of history and humour. The
Registrar at Kingsbridge in 1849 was one "Francis Drake Pearce", or was his
mother's maiden name really Drake?
