Does anyone know what the address of Acadia, Moretonhampstead,
would mean? I'm assuming it's a house or establishment of some sort.
My grandfather, William Woodley, was born and raised in MH.
My grandmother, Mary Louisa Steele, was born in Torquay and
raised in Sussex, but I have letters to her from the early 1900s, some
addressed to her at Acadia and some mailed from Acadia while she
lived elsewhere, the latter signed by her parents, who were Thomas
and Hannah Mineard Steele.
My Mom, William and Mary's daughter, has no recollection of every
hearing that Mary or her parents were in MH, and we'd always thought
William and Mary met in the Salvation Army in another county.
This new information suggests they could have met in MH - one of the letters
is from William, living at Fore Street, to Mary, living at Acadia. The letters
range from about 1903-1906.
