Hi List, still struggling to find the parents of Joseph Willcocks, my 3 x great
grandfather, but it has eventually dawned on me that when he married at Stoke Damerel in
1830 he was apparently only 17 years old.
(This age is worked out from his later census ages and being given as 63 on his death in
1876, although I do realise none of those are dependably accurate.)
In 1830 17 years old would I think have meant he was a minor and needed parental consent
If so would there be any record kept of that consent being given, perhaps noted in the
I have seen a comment to the effect that Stoke Damerel was not too worried about consent
and wondered if any listers had found any records about consent being given and if so
Thank you, Linda Rowland.
