William Henry Morby married Lucy Sykes at Westminster 1Mar 1857. The
marriage record confirms that his father was Horatio Morby, tailor.
William was a widower and the 1861 census has William and Lucy with
children William aged 13, George aged 11, Amelia aged 8, Walter aged 6
and Mary Ann aged 1.
I think he is on the 1851 census as William Henry Moody. They are in
Lambeth (Amelia's birthplace), William Henry Moody is a tailor born
Devonport 1825 and he has children William aged 3 and George aged 1
which fits with the two sons on the 1861 census. There is also a
daughter Emma born 1851. William's wife is Mary E and there is a
marriage on FreeBMD Sep 1846 Newington district for William Henry
Morby and Mary Elizabeth Nurthen is in the list of names.
Interestingly, there is an Elson Farr born c1877 on the censuses and
there is a Presbyterian baptism at Bristol 8 Apr 1764 of Ellison Farr,
son of John and Sarah. A note on the baptism gives John's occupation as
Custom House Officer and the possibility of a Custom house officer
moving from Bristol to Plymouth is certainly worth consideration.

Hello Patrick - Paul has evidently identified your Jane Helson FARR as
Jane Elson FARR, daughter of William and Jane, baptised Stoke Damerel
[FMP, Devon Baptisms, also FamilySearch] and who appears in the 1851
Hamlets census as Jane, born Devonport ca 1802, wife of Horatio MORBEY
she married in 1820 [Ancestry, London, England, Church of England
and Banns, 1754-1921]. FMP has a 1792 marriage at East Stonehouse
William FARR and Jane SOUTHWOOD. The later Weslyan baptism of Jane
FARR suggests some earlier marriage between a FARR and some variant of
Searching FMP for any William Henry baptised Stoke Damerel in 1823-25
two possible MORBEY results in Devon Baptisms: William Henry MORSEY
and William Henry NORBEY 1825. My FMP is currently unpaid so I can't
the transcriptions or images but I'm guessing they are PWDRO and FMP
transcriptions of the same image. However, re-searching via the
keyword field confirms that both transcriptions include the name Jane
neither the name Horatio, so unless Horatio is mistranscribed in both
William Henry is the son of a Jane but not of an Horatio. Perhaps SKS
look-up to resolve that. Does that 1825 baptism fit neatly within the
to 1838 baptisms in Westminster?
Horatio MORBEY is a tailor in the census of 1851 and the
Devon/Devonport-born William Henry MORBY is also a tailor in several
censuses between 1861 and 1911, offering circumstantial evidence that
were father and son. You probably know that William Henry MORBY born
married and had a son of exactly the same name born ca 1848.
Ancestry lists Horatio/Horiatis MORBY/MORBEY in London Electoral
for 1844, 1847 and 1858, and in London Land Tax Records for 1848 and
I notice that Horatio is frequently mistranscribed as Horatia.

What was the source for this information and have you verified it
the original documents. Familysearch shows Horatio and Jane had 10
between 1821 and 1838, all born in Westminster. I found a William H
Devon in the 1891 and 1861 census but nothing to tie him to Horatio. I
couldn't find either in 1841 and only Horatio in 1851. I did find the

You should also consider that one of the main reasons for moving to East
London from Plymouth was a "transfer" by the Dockyard, Navy/Marines and
occasionally the Army..
