I haven't seen any replies to your message actually on the DEVON-L list so I
hope this is not going to repeat anything you may have been told off list.
There is a web site at
which has loads of
information on circus, theatre and music hall families, including details of an
e-mail list for those researching itinerant families.
Do you know which circus Edward Drew was with? I have a friend whose mother is
from Northern Ireland and is a descendant of George Sanger, who owned one of the
biggest circuses in the late 19th century - but the 1881 census information
available via the above web page doesn't show any Irish connections amongst the
Sanger family so I'm not sure what the link is. If Edward Drew *was*
with Sangers, then the web site gives the folio etc. details for the 1891 census
entries and I know from my friend that Sanger took the circus over to the USA at
some point (great rivalry with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show) so you might even
pick them up on one of the US censuses.
Hope this is of use.
