Hi, pleased to help or try to anyway ....if you get the
Mariners list to check the Navy list printed annually from about 1797 you
will find Wm Trounsell if he was an officer, but as this Mid is the only
mention , I begin to wonder if it wasn`t a mis reading by the person who
summarised the document for the NA catalogue , but the Navy List will tell
you , try the 1800 one , if he is an officer he will be there .
life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=///

Thanks for checking out my documents (warrant books, allotment registers)
independently, I'm glad your reading of them is the same as mine.
Like you, I haven't found any mention of William Trounsell in the London
Gazette, the newspaper archive etc, which I've searched using the British
Library in London. Thank you for the suggestion to pursue the Navy Lists
for mention of an appointment to midshipman, and for the suggestion to
contact the mariners forum.
I'm grateful to everyone who chipped in. It seems my brick wall is hanging
on by a few bricks yet!
All the best,

Hi, ADM 27/1/443 is a series of Allotment registers
recording the sending of wages to next of kin by warrant officers,
and Royal Marines from ships named A - T . William Trounsell is HMS
Centaur , pay book number SB 556 Rank Midshipman , Relation mother
Elizabeth , when allotted ( the wages ) 1798 . In Adm 29/2/330 William
Trounsell , rank, carpenter , born ( not given) age on entry ( not given )
Dates served 4 Aug 1781 - 31 Dec 1815 . This series is Records of
, RN , RM , Coastguard, and related services , Officers and Ratings
Adm 6/23/170 is Service Records, Registers, Returns
and Certificates, Commission and Warrant book . William Trounsell ,
carpenter. Warrants or commissions for service at this rank in the RN .
However I cannot find a William , Wm, Willm
Trounsell in the London Gazette, Britishnewspaperarchive, The Times
19th C British newspapers and I think somewhere in one of them the
appointment of a midshipman MIGHT have been recorded ........ however you
would need to see the Navy List for the period 1783 -1815 , and there is a
Navy List for 1800 but not online as far as I can find .. Try also
Mariners-L-request(a)rootsweb.com and ask the experts there . I suppose
is remotely possible that after 30+ years service he could have been
discharged as a midshipman , but he certainly isn`t obviously that for his
full service .
