Hi, Remember too that on the 1841 Census the age of a person over 15
usually (but not always) was rounded down to the nearest five years.

Subject: [DEV] How to get information or birth certificate before 1837?
I understand that the BMD website gives you the information about the
birth, marriage and death of your ancestors from 1837 to 1900s. I want
to know where I can get information on my great-great-great-grandmother
Jane Doidge's birth... According to the 1851 Census she was 13 years old
and her year of birth would be around 1838. I have got the marriage
certificate that she was married in January 1866 and it mentioned that
she was 25. The year of birth would be 1841 and so I am told that she
would be born on 6th February 1832 at Torquay! So her age and the year
would not be accurate. So I would like to find out her birth details
So I wonder how I can find the information before 1837. Can you help me

The Devon Record Office in Exeter is hoping to re-open by
the end of February 2005 -- please see
( http://www4.devon.gov.uk/dro/homepage.html ) for details.
I have a marriage beween John JUTSUM and Elizabeth TOWNSEND on 27 Jan
1757 in CULLOMPTON. In order to try and confirm John's connection with
other JUTSUMs, could anyone kindly help with Witness names?
I would be grateful if anyone who has the marriage fiche for St Thomas'
Exeter PRs could look at the marriage of Nicholas COLE and Honour TURTLEY
which took place 26 December 1738. I have the birth of Nicholas COLE in
Churchstow 1720. However, we are trying to find Honour's birthplace. In
the entry for the marriage what was listed as her parish and also were there
any witnesses of family note.
thankyou for the information you provided from the Holcombe Rogus Marriages and Burials
I have now to consider if my Robert WEBBER bapt 1782, son of Robert and Mary WEBBER is in fact the son of Robert WEBBER and Mary COTTERAL who married in Holcombe Rogus 28 May 1759 - they would have been married for 23 years before he was bapt (?date of birth) or if his parents were married in a surrounding town.

Len Heyward with his request for information has started me off on the road looking for information on my wife's Mothers relatives.
Mother = Madeline Gertrude Hore (b.20.01.1900 d.03.04.1996) m. George Dennis Abel (b.07.02.1891d.14.06.1948 ) m. 04.08.1934.
Madeline had five brothers = Reginald, Lesley,Horace(k.a.Freddy),Sidney & Cyril I have no other information on them except it is believed that they were all born in Exeter.
Their father was Frederick Hore who married Winifred Lavinia Gibbs (b. 11.011872) no marriage date. It is thought that they were married in Exeter either in St. Thomas' or Exwick Church
Horace (Freddy) Hore was the first person to ride the Exeter Speedway track in the 1920's.
This is all the information we have and would appreciate any information that would fill any blanks or add to the ancestors of Frederick Hore.
Many thanks Ken in Cornwall on behalf of his wife Mary nee Abel.

Walsall etc seem to show up on the same 1851 Census Disk as Devon.
Is there anybody out there that knows which list would be most appropriate
for enquiries about the Walsall Birmingham areas?
Is there anybody that knows of resources relating to Saddletree Manufacturers?
I'd be grateful for any help at all.
I'm searching for 2 KNOTT death records if SKS is feeling they need a
1. Alfred James KNOTT, born 1882, Plymouth (wife Elizabeth)
2. John Henham KNOTT, born 1854 South Brent (wife Esther)
I don't know whether these ENGLANDs are mine, but I've taken careful note
of them (including the printing of a copy of your email).
Thank you for your kind efforts. Greatly appreciated!

James Thurban's family can be traced in Mousehole and Penzance ( Cornwall )
right to the present.
But his first appearance is in the 1851 Devon Census at 11 Willow Street
Recorded as James THURBIN - Lodger, unmarried, aged 26, a Shoe Maker
born Exeter-DEVON. He later shows in the 1871 Census Parish MOUSEHOLE, as
THURBAN, Jas , Head, aged 38 CORDWAINER born EXETER, Devonshire.
Has anyone come across any THURBIN/THURBAN/THORBURN/THURBURN families
in Exeter area, particularly James, born somewhere between 1824 and 1834?
According to the marriage registry entry 23 OCT 1865 Madron, Cornwall,
JAMES THURBAN was 34; he married CATHERINE CHIRGWIN ( 20 ) .
I would be grateful for any help....
With Best Wishes
