I have a certificate of birth for a Sylvia Irene born to Florence Elizabeth Davies, formerly Parsons, and Albert Edward Davies 31 May 1928, Green Tree, Broad Clyst.
On the bottom of the certificate is written Adopted and the Registrar's name. Does this mean the child was adopted at birth, and is there anyway of tracing her?

There is a Sarah born july-sept qtr 1867 in chard 5c 458
Are you sure the family you have are the right ones?
could be worth spending £3 to see if this Sarah has a father called
emmanuel. Have you located her in the 1901 census ?

Hello to everyone. I am coming back to the list after a short break, and wonder if anyone can help me break down a brick wall.
Could SKS please help me with my search for my ggrandmother and her family. Her name was Sarah TOLMAN (possible alternative spellings are TOLEMAN or TOLLMAN) and she was born about 1869 in Axmouth, Devon. She married in 1893 in Bournemouth (then in Hampshire but now in Dorset) and lived there until her death. On her marriage certificate, she gives her father's name as Emmanuel TOLMAN and her age as 26 and one of her witnesses was a P. TOLMAN who may have been a relative
I have found what appears to be the right family in the 1881 census living at Dowlands Cottages, Axmouth, but the family does not include Sarah, who would have been about 12 years old then, nor can I find any Sarah of about the right age who might be her. (Of course, she could have given the wrong age for the wedding, which won't help me at all, and there are a number of possibilities elsewhere on the 1881 census).
This is what the 1881 census shows :
Extract: 1881 British Census
Dwelling: Dowlands Cottages
Census Place: Axmouth, Devon, England
Emanuel TOLEMAN married, head of household, age 53 (born c 1828), born Burstock, Dorset, occupation : Ag Lab
Danah TOLEMAN (I think this should be Hannah or Hanah, possibly born Hannah HUNT) married, wife, age 53 (born c 1828), born Chardstock, Dorset, occupation : Ag Lab Wife
Samuel TOLEMAN age 16 (born c 1865), born Axmouth, Devon, relation : Son, occupation : Ag Lab
Emanuel TOLEMAN age 14 (born c 1867), born Axmouth, Devon, relation : Son
Annie TOLEMAN age 10 (born c 1871), born Axmouth, Devon, relation : Daughter, occupation: Scholar
Charlotte TOLEMAN age 7(born c 1874), born Axmouth, Devon, relation : Daughter, occupation: Scholar
I think that Danah TOLMAN should be Hannah, as I found an entry for a marriage between an Emanuel TOLMAN and a Hannah HUNT at Hursey, Burstock c 1849.
Since I have been unsuccessful in tracking down my Sarah TOLEMAN before her wedding in Bournemouth in 1893, when she gave her age as 26 (so born c 1867 or so) I am wondering if she might in fact be the daughter named Annie in the census entry. So, if anyone has access to the 1871 or 1891 census for Axmouth, could they let me know if there is an Emmanuel TOLMAN (born between 1824 and 1828) living there with his family and if so, whether there is a daughter called Sarah or Annie or Sarah Ann or Ann Sarah.
Thanking you in advance from warm sunny Normandy

I am looking for anyone who might be able to find the parents of Charles Ford
and Ann Hammett who were married 21 July 1745 in Crediton,Devon,England.
Would it be listed on their marriage record? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am afraid that you are unlikely to get far with this research. The
registration number in the UK is issued to the vehicle when first licensed,
and in the vast majority of cases stays with that vehicle through it's life
(and therefore "dies" when the vehicle is eventually scrapped). The
licensing authority is totally bureaucratic, is based in Swansea, Wales, and
is most unlikely to be willing to help. In fact prior to the 1970's vehicle
registration was performed by the local councils, so the records are
probably lost unless the vehicle still exists, which in the case of a 1930's
Austin (unlike say a Bentley) is a chance of one in a million!

Elizabeth was the daughter of William WARD and was mentioned in his will dated 14 December 1850 under her married name of PEARKIN.
William was from Black Torrington when he married Mary ARSCOTT in Bradford on 10 January 1798. I have located the baptisms of their various children in the Bradford/Cookbury area between 1798 and 1822, but I have not been able to locate the baptism of Elizabeth.
Can anyone help, please?

Sarah BICKFORD married at Stokeinteignhead and was apparently from
Harberton. "William Ball & Sarah Bickford of ye Parish of Harberton were
marryed March 23rd 1714."
This is from Parish Register 3. Micro Fiche 6.
Robin kindly passed on results of his search for BICKFORDs but he didn't
record a baptism for a Sarah at Harberton. He suggested looking in the
neighbouring parishes of Diptford and Ashprington.
If sks has the Parish Records for either Diptford or Ashprington and
could kindly do a lookup for Sarah's or other BICKFORD baptisms around
1693 I would be most grateful.
