Not true. Terraserver.com
can be enlarged greatly plus you can swith
aerial or sattelite photographs of the same place. For instance on one
photo that I zoomed in on you can see the white line in the highway and
people's driveways to their houses. The topos can zoom right down to a few
hundred feet with great clarity.
Perhaps I'm missing something. I went to the web site you mentioned to look
for an area of interest (my house). What I found for a topo map (there was no
aerial photo) had very poor resolution, no buildings shown, and the creek out
back (now dry!) was not on it. The real topo map has every house, including
the chicken coop that was torn down in our back yard 10 years ago. It seems
that what the USGS allows for free download is far inferior to the paper maps
they sell. I asked if they had the good ones available electronically and
they said no. (I was asking at their store at their headquarters.)
Is there someway to get better topo maps at this site then what I am seeing?
