Sue,
Look in the help under Public Land or Public Domain. There is an example
Public land project installed with Deedmapper in the directory Publand. I don't
recall if example projects are an install option but you could always reinstall
it if you don't have it.
Any map that goes down to the sections should do. Most county highway maps I've
seen have that.

I apologize. If you will tell me what year, I will go to the archives
for that year and search??
I have deed mapper and we use it a lot. But, I've had some questions
posed to me about land in the Federal Land States (those, that are not
metes and bounds.) I've not seen anything anywhere in the program and
talks about this.
Is there a program that lets your plot the deed using Range, Section and
Township?
I have the diagram for the supposed locating of the property but, I have
been told if you don't have a topograph map or a corp of engineers
map of the county, it makes it difficult to pin down the land, exactly...
I've not attempted this because I only have one state that I deal with
that was a Federal Land state and I know exactly where their land was..
Anyway, I was asked if there was a online site to help with this or if
Deed Mapper and an update that covers this?
Thanks,
Sue
