I just got DeedMapper 4.0 with some maps for Pendleton County, KY and
installed it a couple days ago.
With a deed from 1936 on the waters of the Kincaid Creek where Long Branch
enters, I entered all the points and lines (23 pairs) and the plot closed
properly and I readily found the location on the map. In this case the copy
of the deed was a photocopy I obtained from the typed deed books at the
Pendleton County Courthouse.
The next one I tried has not gone so well. The description is:
Beginning at a stone corner to Cookendorfer, on a ridge, thence N 79 W 30
poles to three elms on Long Branch, then up said branch S 57 /2 W 43 poles
S11 /2 W 18 poles to a red oak, thence S 1E 42 poles to a buckeye, thence S
25 /2 W 18 poles to a stone, on the east side of said branch, thence N50 /2
E 141 ½ poles to a stone in Cookendorfers line, thence N 39 /2 W 54 poles
to the beginning, containing 50 acres
Sometimes in front of the /2 there is a dot and I dont know what that
means. It does not look like a 1.

Would anyone have some advice for me on how to interpret this deed call?
The area does not close and the acreage doesnt come out. Perhaps I could
scan the deed and post on the internet?
Thanks in advance. I am very excited about using DeedMapper - it looks like
very nice software.

If you look at the way the parcel fails to close you'll see that the
east-west location of the end point is correct but the north-south location
is wrong. In fact, the last point is just about due south of where it is
supposed to be. Looking at the other lines on the parcel there is only one
that is a good candidate for correcting this. S1E 42 might be too short.
If you change it to S1E 82 you get a pretty decent closure and pretty decent
area. I have no explanation for this being the error-- it isn't one of
those where digits are confused (e.g. 1,4,7 and 0,6,9, and 3,8), or the
angle is east rather than west or vice versa.
Anyway, there's only one way to confirm a fix of any kind and that is by
looking at neighboring parcels.
