If that deed is being plotted in a vacuum then you would be correct, but
for me, in the areas where I plot, finding deeds or grants that are so well
defined that no other information is required is a rare occurrence. :) I
have to plot everything in the area and then drop the tough to find ones in
like puzzle pieces. Everyone doesn't have that problem I guess
(unfortunately hee hee!).

That's easily enough information to plot. You've got 4 sides of a regular
pentagon in what you describe with a creek forming the fifth non-linear
side. A pointer, as described in the other email, is just a corner or some
sort. It's a stopping point for the previous line and the starting point
for a new line. A tree, a rock, someone else's property line, 3 trees
chopped inwards, a road, a waterway, etc. etc. etc.
