I am not a surveyor but thought the early deeds were :
in the example below would be SE 80 degrees 63 chains and 20 links.

After some straightforward deeds from early South Carolina, I have run
into trouble with some post-revolutionary SC deeds. An example of the
format given in the plat drawings is as follows:
SE 80"63"20 This format is used throughout my deed data.
And it does not fit the NW 80o N 50 ft format I was expecting. I
would be grateful if someone could help.
