No. The purpose of the limit is to allow multiple message to be
contained in a digest and the digest is set to allow digest
subscribers to not get too many messages (the main purpose of the
Digest), but still receive list postings in a timely manner.
In most cases when a message is too big, the reason is that the
message contain the ENTIRE quote of a prior message and often
messages before that. While quoting of portions of a prior message
is often needed to indicate context of the message text, it is very
rare that the quotation of ENTIRE prior message(s) are needed.
Further, keep in mind that the mailing list is a free service of
). Every message posted to a mailing list
is automatically archived. Thus quoting of an entire message means
that the quoted message is stored in the archives multiple times and
takes up added disk capacity. Since we subscribers are quests on
, we should try to conserve disk storage space when we can.
