OK gang, time to take your best and most constructive shot. John suggested, and I agree,
that Robert Lanier Daniel and Robert Daniel of Martin Co., NC, were two individuals. I
used the scenario proposed by Will Daniels and all the deed records supplied by several
folks including Jack, to rework these two families. It is apparent that some researchers
mixed up the children of both Roberts and called Robert of Martin a sheriff, which he
probably he was not, and so on and so forth.
You may visit
http://paynedaniel.com the Ann Jones Daniel file, to see the changes I have
made. The obvious confusion is trying to overlap the Pitt/Beaufort Daniels with the
Daniels of Smithwick Creek, Martin County, NC. I have a handwritten copy of the will of
Thomas Daniel of Tyrrell County, NC, and that document list Robert Lanier Daniel as his
son. His son Josiah is also mentioned and the records I have for Josiah Daniel clearly
link him back to Thomas and Elizabeth Lanier and no other family.
If you have corrections, suggestions, or constructive comments that will help this study,
please dive in. I take no shots at any past researcher's work as we simply have them
outgunned with all this computer stuff.
Well, Tiger is teeing off and genealogy is not the only game in town. Payne
