Something that Payne and I have been bouncing around (off list) for the
past several months is the possibility that many of these SC and even GA
DANIEL folks may well have been O'DANIEL at some point. We know the
Frederick O'DANIEL family of SC was tied to the WHITFIELD family and this is
the same WHITFIELD family that Aaron DANIEL, son of Thomas DANIEL and
Elizabeth LANIER of Tyrrell County, NC, married into.
Today, I found a GEDCOM which stated that a Thomas O'DANIEL born 1686
married an Elizabeth LANIER. I also found a GEDCOM which stated that this
Thomas was a son of Owen O'DANIEL of Isle of Wight County, VA. I also found
a Thomas O'DANIEL born 1630 who married an Anna JONES. All of these names
we know are around this DANIEL family of Tyrrell County, NC.
I guess what I am saying is -- it may well be O'DANIEL and not DANIEL in
this line and many more. We know that William DANIEL (1747-1807) of
Edgefield, SC may well be the son of William O'DANIEL of Fairfax County, VA.
Into that family are the MARSHES, another family collateral with the
O'DANIELS. Also, the given name sequences used in the William DANIEL of
Edgefield, SC closely match the given name sequences in the O'DANIEL family.
No smoking guns, yet, for this assignment but it is well within the
realm of possibility, if not probability....
