Thanks to Lew for this data. If we presume that the previous children that
John and I listed for Simon Daniel Sr., by either Elizabeth Rogers or
Elizabeth Bentley are true, then William Daniel (d. 1789) would be the son
of Simon Daniel Jr., and Elizabeth Pettypoole. That said, then David Daniel,
born 1764/65, would be the son of said William. Joseph Daniel, of the
disposition, would probably be the brother of William Daniel and the uncle
of David Daniel. In order to firmly establish that William Daniel (not the
William Daniel of Edgecombe), Hardy Daniel, Joseph Daniel, and Robert
Daniel, are the issue of Simon Daniel Jr., because they are not listed in
the records as children of Simon Daniel Sr., and Elizabeth Bentley, we need
dates of birth.
It is very possible that Hardy Daniel and Joseph Daniel could be the sons of
Simon Sr., but it is more likely that Joseph would be the uncle of David,
1764/65, not his great uncle.
Aha what a tangled web we weave when we seek to sort out this family?
Thanks to everybody for your forbearance during this study.

Subject: [DANIEL-L] Simon Daniel children - dates of birth
In response to Payne's request for evidence on the dates of birth
children of Simon Daniel, I submit the following, which lists the exact
age of one of Simon's grandchildren, David, son of William, who was age
31 in September 1796. So David was born in 1764/65. David's father was
William, and his grandfather was Simon. I'm not sure which Simon was
>From Stephen Bradley's book on "New Bern District Loose Papers", page
"19 Sep 1796. Wayne Co. Deposition of Joseph Daniel [previous
depositions on this case have been omitted]. He stated that David
Daniel was about age 31, that the said Negro is about age 28 & was with
William Daniel from his birth until the said William's death, that said
negro was to be sold at public auction & the said David Daniel bid for
him about 29 Aug 1789; that Simon Daniel grandfather of the said David
distributed to Joseph [&] William Daniel & other children &
grandchildren by verbal gifts & said Simon asked said Joseph Daniel to
deliver one negro to Mary Stevens; that 9 or 10 years ago that he heard
William Daniel say he had never intended to give negro boy Dick to his
son David Daniel. To Edgecombe Co. Summons to Theophilus Thomas to
appear in same."
