That is not exactly what the DNA results the Daniel DNA Project say for
the Henning DANIEL line. This is exactly what it says concerning your
And, I quote, verbatim, from the DANIEL DNA Project for this haplotype:
Early settlers of Britain, the Celts. This haplotype is found mostly in
Wales and Ireland. Henning Daniel exactly matches this haplotype, while the
others in this table differ by only one marker making them probable members
of this genetic family.
These results say this DNA haplotype are "mostly found in Wales and Ireland"
but it does not say your line was from Wales or from Ireland. That
determination would have to be based on your individual family research
because your line could just as easily be from Ireland, as this definition
so states. It also says "mostly," which means your DNA haplotype markers
are also found, elsewhere, and are not just limited to Wales or Ireland.
However, you are correct in your common ancestor explanation because just
because your line and another DANIEL share a common DNA haplotype does not
mean that one or the other descended from each other. This commonality only
says -- at some point in the past, your line and the other DANIEL line had a
common ancestor, but it does not say the magic word --- "when." <grin>

My only comment would to be careful about interpreting results from the
studies - it will not tell you who your specific ancestor is, simply
the line is the same. I have seen many people - not necessarily Daniel
- say that "my DNA shows that I come form the XYZ line".
Well, no, it
probably doesn't, not really. What it really shows is that you and the
named person share a common ancestor - but the point of separation could
theoretically be several generations different from the supposed one.
a very great deal rides on the thoroughness of research and level
evidence supporting the "known" descendant against whom you measure
Jack, As to Wales, yes indeed, I was referring back to the DANIEL DNA
which indicates that my specific grandfather's line, Henning
from Wales. However, much more importantly, my statement regarding our
particular Henning DANIEL family having come from Wales came from my
grandmother who stated many years ago that her DANIELs came here from
and which I had/have no reason to doubt. I merely found it
the DNA test seemed to point in that direction also. And,
everyone seems to believe William DANIEL who married Elizabeth
English stock, that is all.
