Some of my Daniels were in the area that was later Clarke County, AL
from before the county was formed, about 1810, until 1838, when, with a
large company of Clarke Countians, they moved to Caddo Parish, LA, later
De Soto Parish. They were James Daniel 1784-186? and wife Sarah Robinson
1784-186?, and children Carney b. ca 1807, Elizabeth b. 1810, Aaron
Kinsey b. 1813, Narcissa b. 1815, Estridge b. 1816, Francis Marion b.
1821, Mahala b. 1822, and James Jr. b. 1826.
James Daniel Sr. was in the 1840 census of Caddo Parish, LA, but son
Aaron Kinsey was in the 1840 census of Pike County, AR, and son Carney
was in the 1840 census of Sevier County, AR. In 1850, James Sr.,
Estridge, Elizabeth, and Carney's widow and their families were still in
De Soto Parish, LA, but Aaron Kinsey, Francis Marion, James Jr.,
Narcissa, and Mahala and their families had moved to Jefferson County, TX.
Later James Sr. and Estridge also moved to Hardin County, TX which
was formed from Jefferson County.
The children of James and Sarah Robinson Daniel, married into the
Bumpas, Howell, Chapman, Allan, Porter, and Monk families. I know that
some of these families were from the Edgefield District, South Carolina,
by way of Georgia. Sounds like two separate bunches of Daniels, though.
Are your Daniels related to the James Wesley Daniel family that is
participating in the Daniel DNA project?

Although the website you listed didn't have your Asa Goodwin in it - I think
that your looking in the right direction.
There was a large group of families that came out of NC and entered into Ga
about 1790 & AL/TN in the 1800-1830 era. Many folks in NC started moving
about that time - some went south, others to the northwest. In NC there was
a group of families - colaterals of each other, which included the
Goodwin's, Portis', Davis', Lambert's, Harris', Moore's,
My Daniel family is colateral of the families mentioned above - with the
elder being James Daniel, b. 1797 in GA. He & many of the families
mentioned were in the Monroe/Clarke Co., AL area by1820 - most lived there
for about 20years -when many of them migrated west through MS, LA, to Union
Co., Ark. There were Daniel's in Ark that seem to be related, that use the
name Wesley. And, the Presley is also used - but, I'm not sure that this is
a family name or not.
It was to Monroe Co - that many descendants of Theophlis Goodwin migrated.
There is a FamilyTreeMaker site that provides alot of information about this
line. I believe that Asa is a name used in part of this line.
