Thank you for your very informative reply. You gave me DANIEL names that could be very
helpful. It also sent me digging through my folders, binders, and boxes of loose papers.
I've focused on Walker DANIEL as the parent of my Martha W. DANIEL married 1816 to
Corbin N. DORSEY in Shelby County, Kentucky.
There is a newspaper account (Frankfort Angus, dated 1831-06-22) that Walker DANIEL, Esq
died on the 11th after a long and painful illness. He left a wife and 2 small children.
Guardian Book #1 has the children names as Susan and Walker with John LYLE as guardian.
The "Kentucky Gazette" February 22, 1838 states an act for the benefit of Walker
DANIEL authorized the guardian to sell a certain slave.
The Walker DANIEL killed by Indians in 1784 cannot possibly be my Martha W. Daniel's
parent. I placed her birth abt 1798 using her 1816 marriage date as the base.
The Walker DANIEL of Shelby County, dod 1831, married to Eliza Blanton with 2 small
children does not mention any other offspring. A possible conclusion is that this Walker
DANIEL may be Martha's parent only if the marriage to Eliza Blanton was marriage #2.
So...if Walker DANIEL is not the parent of Martha W. then which DANIEL is.
Walker DANIEL appears, as does MERIWETHER, in various documents with DORSEY. A grandson
of Martha W. and Corbin N. Dorsey born abt 1845, was named Andrew Walker DORSEY. Richard
M. DORSEY, son of Martha W., appears as Richard MERIWETHER DORSEY.
R. M. DORSEY and family are in the 1860 Owensboro, Daviess County, Ky census. However, R.
M. Dorsey is listed as deceased in late 1860. Son Walker served as a Confederate and a
Union soldier. Walker marries takes up residence in Ballard County along with his mother,
Martha GLASS DORSEY. Andrew WALKER DORSEY passes about 1892.
The index of the 1999 HISTORY OF SHELBY COUNTY, KY reissue has the following DANIEL's
-- Martin; Patsy; Robert; Walker; William.
From Shelby County's GENERAL INDEX TO WILLS, ETC. sheets 39 &
40 has these DANIEL's -- Martin; Robert; Geo. S.; Walker; Leonard, Eliza.
Then in 2004 a transcribed copy of Robert DANIEL wILL with a 1792 date was posted. These
names are mentioned in the will -- "Sister Clarks children" - "Sister Betsy
MERIWETHER two sons" - "Brother Thomas DANIEL" - "Sister Sukey
MORRIS" - Brother Coleman DANIEL" - Brother Walker DANIEL" - "Father
John DANIEL" - "Brother Martin DANIEL" and the Executors were
"Brother Martin DANIEL and my friend Nicholas MERIWETHER".
None of the above answers my question as to the identity of my Martha W. DANIEL DORSEY
