Good afternoon, All.
In the three days or so that have elapsed since originally sending the
request for help on John L. DANIEL, a number of updates and corrections have
been found. If anyone can add, or subtract, from these findings, please let
me know. Any assistance very much appreciated.
John L. DANIEL, b. abt 1839 AL, is now believed to be the son of William
Francis & Frances Riddle DANIEL. The 1850 census of Wilcox Co., AL shows
John's middle initial as "P.", while the Freestone Co., TX 1860 shows it as
"L", or I misread the script. A letter from a descendant of W. F.'s
daughter Martha Elizabeth states he is "John T." and that he was a son of W.
F. and Frances Riddle DANIEL.
James HATCHER was not the husband of Mary DANIEL, widow of Josiah L., d.
1813. After most of six years as a widow with a young son, William Francis,
Mary remarried in 1819 to Jeremiah HATCHER (b. 1764?), Sheriff of Edgefield,
who died there in 1827, leaving her with three more young children, Richard
Johnson, Mary A. D., and Catherine Amelia. James HATCHER, 1776-1838, d.
Dallas Co., AL, was the husband of Martha TATE. A difference of opinion
among HATCHER researchers says that James was either a younger brother of
Jeremiah's and son of Robert HATCHER or a first cousin, son of Edward Goode
HATCHER, Robert's Brother.
In addition, W. F. DANIEL's mother-in-law was Elizabeth TATE, Frances
RIDDLE's mother, who was Martha TATE (wife of James) HATCHER's sister, both
apparently daughters of Zimri TATE. In any case, W. F. was part of the
overall HATCHER and TATE families in Dallas Co., AL in 1838 and this helps
explains why he was a witness to the will of James HATCHER there.
W. F. DANIEL's second wife was Josephine Estelle LOVE, b. abt 1838, d/o
Joseph B. LOVE, d. bef 3 Dec 1857, of Madison County, TN.
The wife of Judge Richard J. (Johnson) HATCHER, Sr., W. F.'s 1/2 brother,
was Sarah Hayes BENNETT. Richard was a Dentist and Farmer as well.
The thrill is in the hunt. Satisfaction is in the discovery, if the discove
ry is correct.
Yes, Payne, we are having fun!
Now, where did "John T." go...and who did he marry?

Subject: [DANIEL-L] John L. DANIEL, Freestone Co., TX in 1860
Good morning, All.
Can anyone shed light on who this John L. DANIEL may be?
John L. DANIEL 21(or 27?) M W AL is in Freestone Co., TX in the 1860
his household is Mary J. LOVE 22 F W SC, and Mary McELROY 77 F W
GA. He lives between W. F. DANIEL 45 M W SC Farmer and wife Josephine E.
and Richard J. HATCHER 41 M W Dentist SC and wife Sarah 34 F W SC.
W. F. is William Francis DANIEL, son of Josiah L. and Mary (nee Daniel)
later Mary (husb. James)HATCHER who is in W. F.'s household in this
census. Richard J. HATCHER is also her son.
The LOVE connection is a clue because W. F.'s wife appears to be Josephine
LOVE, b. abt 1838, d/o Joseph B. LOVE, d. bef 3 Dec 1857, of Madison
I would also like to know Richard J. HATCHER's wife Sarah's maiden name if
someone has that.
All assistance greatly appreciated.
