I have been following the Daniel bread crumbs left by previous researchers (Hayden,
Newman, Heinemann) in my search for the originators of my Daniel line. Two of the
researchers documented in print that they followed the lead of Hayden in regards to the
relationship between Peter Daniel (son of James) and Williams Daniel (with the line of
Judges and Senators in Virginia). Hayden based this on Maj. J. W. Daniel [grandson of
William Pride Daniel] stating his father and Judge Peter Vivion Daniel claimed a family
connection and Mrs. W. P Conway stating that Judge Wm. Daniel, Sr. was a near kinsman of
her grandfather, Travers Daniel. Also, I have a newspaper article from Lincoln County
Nebraska 6 Jun 1893, in which descendants of Peter Daniel claim they were ancestors of
Judge William Daniel and Senator John Warwick Daniel. However, based on the DNA of our
small group of 5 or 6 people who are a proven match to the Williams Daniel family, there
is no DNA match between Williams Daniel and the kits assigned to Peter Daniel and Charles
Daniel (sons of James.)
So I would add that the truth is not always what we think it is. Are the two kits assigned
to the James Daniel line proven? It is possible that James is truly the blood relative of
By the way, our Daniel DNA does not match the Robert Davis DNA either!

Okay, we may differing or supporting views of the Middlesex Family i. e. was the son James
Daniel (a step son) of William and Joceabed actually named Davis. Our James who married
a Margaret Vivian had issue who continued the name Daniel.
“There is a DNA mismatch between James and his brothers, William, Robert, and Richard
called by their father; my loving son”. Source Pam Miler - a point well taken.
Further: William of Middlesex
“This line supposedly descends from James Daniel, step son of Capt. Middlesex. James was
probably actually a Davis. The fact that he has no Daniel
matches, even with a 12 marker test, probably indicates that there is a break in
this line. There are several descendants of James Daniel (Davis) who do match,
so yes a spoiler for the descendants of Raleigh Travers Daniel. I have not
discussed this with them as they have not asked for help with their results”.Kevin Daniel
May I offer a humble view of Robert Daniell and myself.
If the surname was Davis before becoming a step/adopted son using the Daniel surname, the
Daniel surname is a legal thing; the DNA line remains Davis. The adopted name may be
Daniel with has been viewed as legal.
