Additionally, I have been reminded that Captain John Daniel of Wake/Elbert
had a grandson named Woodson? Your thoughts, Mike! Payne

In reply to your "but even from the mouths of 'on lookers' can come
Be careful what you wish for, etc., here comes some serious waffling
babble from me!
The dates give some answer. The John who was son and executor of
Woodson Daniel stayed in NC after the John of the RevWar Pension file
claims he went to Elbert.
John, son of Woodson:
Granville Deed Bks:
Q410 William Reaves of Wake County, NC and John Daniel of Granville Co,
exrs. of Woodson Daniel, decd., deed to John Ward of Wake Co, NC 23 Nov
Q384 Wm. Reaves and John Daniel exrs. of the estate of Woodson Daniel,
decd., sold land to Henry Byrum; all were of Wake Co, NC 23 Feb 1797.
Hillsborough District Probate Papers:
6 Oct 1798 summons to John Daniel in Wake, exr of Woodson to appear next
April to answer Charles Reid [he was suing the estate for debts Woodson
had signed for in the 1777. no docs in this file dated after this one]
No matter which ending milestone you use and how you stretch "8 years
after the RevWar", it doesn't make it to late 1798.
I was going to say that John the son of Woodson also looks to have moved
back to Granville, however temporarily, while taking care of his
father's estate, but he actually does seem to flip-flop as needed in the
records between claiming to be from Granville and Wake. And by 1800
William Reeves was deeding as exr of Woodson's estate without John, so
it's true there's some change there (one waffle, no syrup).
The namesakes David and James as son of John of Wake/Elbert maybe keep
the trail alive for for John of Wake/Elbert to be a son of David the son
of Woodson? Nothing in my notes really builds David's family, can't
help much there. And I don't have late enough records to show where
John son of Woodson was after 1798, whether in Wake or Rowan, bet Mike does.
I don't have anything in early Wake records that show another John
Daniel who isn't pretty clearly somehow of the Woodson gang. But can
two Johns of Wake be distinguished by lands? Woodson's Granville/Wake
land is well north on Ledge of Rocks, Cedar Creek, Beaverdam, all on the
border of Wake/Granville, David Daniel is near him very early on, but
later he's down near Raleigh and then on Great Lick, way northwest in Wake.
John gets land in Rowan early, at the same time as James, i.e. I think
it's John the son of Woodson (Mike also previously mentioned the Ellis
Rowan Co NC Vacant Land Entries 1778-1789. Richard A. Enochs
#155 Darby Henly 640a on both sides of Ellis's Ck on E side Yadkin R adj
Lewis Lofton. Made over to Jas. Russell & by him to John Daniel. 5 Feb
But I don't know that David gets there that early?
Meaning...could this next apply to the John of Wake/Elbert, separate him
from Woodson, but put him with David? Mine Creek is quite well south
running north off Crabtree Creek, today in Raleigh proper, so this is a
ways from where Woodson was, not a lot of reason for a 22 year old John
to be involved in a deed if he's not closely located or associated, but
no guarantee this isn't the 32 year old John either (waffle with syrup):
Abstracts of the Early Deeds of Wake Co NC 1785-1802 by Joseph W. Watson:
F218 Isaac Hunter to Andrew Heartsfield both of Wake, 7 Sep 1784. £40,
123a on south side Mine Ck and on Munns Road adj sd Heartsfield, part of
tract grtd by NC to sd Hunter. wit Jas. Humphries, John Walter, John
David Daniel is right here based on:
Order Book 3-321 Mar 1793 David Daniel on jury to lay off road leading
out of Munn's Road where it crosses the New Ridge Road from thence to
Neuse Rv where James Moore formally lived and fr thence to Granvill
County line at the ridge betw Beverdam and Newlight Creeks.
[This suggests David actually resides here, although he still has some
of his lands up near Woodson. W-a-f-f-l-e]
Isaac Hunter ended up at Lick Creek, hard northwest in Wake, and David
Daniel also got there and bought bounding land, although this is also
after John of Wake/Elbert would have left:
Q76 William Evans Sr to David Daniel both of Wake 21 Jun 1798, £200, 3
tracts: 1) 100a on branches of Great Lick Ck as per dd fr State to
Evans; 2) 105a on waters of Little Lick Ck adj aforesd tract, Sam'l
Jenkins, Wm. Burke, as per dd fr Charles Dunstan to sd Evans; 3) 200a on
waters of Great Lick Ck adj Isaac Hunter, Thos. Evans, Wm. Burke, Joseph
Gallihur, as per dd fr John May to sd Wm. Evans. wit John May, Feebey
Evans, John Scogin.
Hunter had been involved with estate dealings of Woodson Daniel:
Wake Co NC County Court Minutes 1787-1792 Weynette Parks Haun:
Book 2-266 Jun 1792 Robert Paul v. exrs of Woodson Daniel decd. ptf
has note for £11. court said it was in Jurisdiction of a single
justice, not the court, so suit abates. ptf not satisfied, appealed to
Superior Court held for Hillsborough distr, grtd, he gave bond with
Isaac Hunter Senr and Bromfield Ridley as secs and filed for his reasons.
I keep thinking I "see" something here, but not enough to get a firm
hold on it; no doubt I'm missing something obvious that helps or trashes
it. And I don't have a clue at the moment if this speaks to or messes
with any DNA results that might be out there.
So, is this a plate of waffles or what?

OK, we have some feed back; one interested party still believes that
Daniel of Wake/Elbert was the son of Woodson Daniel.
