RE: avid golfer and quail hunter
I do not know if Dr. Sam was related to me or not but he was my kind of guy
because I have spent a lifetime chasing both pursuits. Before my stroke
last year , I was a USGA 3 handicap with 9 " holes in one" and once killed
176 quail in one year. Now, things are a little more difficult to do than
they used to be and 88's on a scorecard do not look as bad as they once did.

"Dr. Sam V. Daniel, 75, of Conway, died Saturday, December 24, 2005. He
was born June 22, 1930 in Marshall to the late Elmer H. Daniel and Pearl
He was an Air Force veteran and a long-time Conway physician. In 1959 he
opened Daniel Clinic, a general practice, above Baker Drug on Front Street
in Conway, making him the seventh doctor in Conway. On March 18, 1965, he
opened a new clinic at 574 Locust Street, which was built by Nabholz
Dr. Daniel gave 31 years of dedicated service to Conway Regional Hospital
and our community. He was the first M.D. to be on the Conway Regional
Hospital board of directors, which he served from 1968-1983, and was
chairman from 1975-1982. He was also the chief of staff from 1967-1968. He
held a seat on the admissions committee for the University of Arkansas
College of Medicine. He retired in 1990.
Dr. Daniel was an avid golfer and quail hunter. He was a faithful husband,
a loving and caring father, devoted physician, and loyal friend. He loved
his Lord, and celebrated his first Christmas with his wife and Savior.
He is survived by his children, Vance Daniel of Conway, Melissa
Castleberry of Conway, Polly Vance of Bakersfield, CA, and Sammye Bates of
Lafayette, LA; three brothers, George Daniel and Dr. Charles Daniel, both
of Marshall, and James Daniel of Maumelle; a sister, Grace Daniel Bianchi
of Conway and his grandchildren, Zeb Daniel, Sam Castleberry, Amanda
Daniel, Tyler Castleberry, Trey Daniel, Zach Castleberry, Daniel Bates,
Seth Vance, and Paige Bates.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at Central
Baptist Church, 3333 Dave Ward Drive in Conway, with Bro. Don R. Chandler
officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the fellowship
hall of the church. Viewing will be Tuesday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Zeb Daniel, Sam Castleberry, Tyler
Castleberry, Trey Daniel, Zach Castleberry, Daniel Bates, and Seth Vance.
Honorary pallbearers are Sam Beale, Pete Bianchi, Cole Castellaw, Jerry
Dell, Jim Flanagin, Clay Lamsey, Sr., Bill McConnell, Tommy Morrison,
Vernon Red, and Ross Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church or the
American Heart Association.
