Morning, I'm doing this by quote and reply:

MY read of the 1800 Wayne County, NC census for William Daniel -
1001 off image 0447. Next to him was Joel Savage, John Lane, Henry
Smith, and something that looks like M. Durden. This is the entry that
looks like Donnell.
It seems we're looking at the same page, but the Lane name two before
William Daniel (Joel Savage is between them) says Isham Lane Jr., I
don't see an M. Durden, but immediately after William Daniel says
Woodard Barden. Four names before William Daniel is a John Barden to
help compare the B/D and there's an Isham Revil 10 names down to compare
the Isham/John writing.
Also on image 873A William DANIEL 00000 00101 -6 This looks more
the William I would expect. He may be dead but his wife is still alive
45+. I also wonder who these 6 other free persons were.
This page doesn't say William Daniel, it says Widow Daniel. The dash
you show is for the "all other" column, the 6 is in the slave column.
But yes, this is the one I had suggested could be the widow of the elder
William because she's next the Outlands in 1800 and William is listed
next to them in the 1810.
I believe this William Daniel was double enumerated in 1800: a William
Daniel with identical numbers to the one on p.847 is also on p. 871.
The neighbors of William on p.847 look more like western names that
remain in Wayne, the names on p.871 look more eastern, especially
Faircloth, they become more Greene names. This further helps locate
this Daniel group right on the Wayne/Greene border the year after
Glasgow changed its name to Greene.
What image page did you find Robert Daniel on?
Robert is in Greene on p.612 (upside down stamp on lower right of page),
before him are Taylors, Howells, and Faircloths, after are Mourning,
index to 1800 census
Last name, first name, page, males (under 10, 10-15, 16-25, 26-44,
45+), females (under 10, 10-15, 16-25, 26-44, 45+), other free persons,
There is another column after "other free persons", it's for slaves.
