as Captain William Daniel of Middlesex or William of Mass, I have a
In a letter from the papers of John Thurloe, written in olde English, dated
June 3, 1655, from Jamaica, with acknowledgements that he was connected to
Barbados, John Daniell clearly states the Col. William Daniel, Gov. of St.
Johnson's in Scotland, is his brother and that his mother is Mrs. Christian
Daniel; in other words the wife of Peter Daniell II of Over Tabley, England.
Col William was married to Dorothy Forth and never came over to America.
Now is this John, William of Wigan's brother, with connections to Jamaica
and Barbados, the same as the John Daniel of Barbados, who married an
Ann-LN a guess? While in England, John was a spy for John Thurloe an agent
for Oliver Cromwell.
Did he eventually move along to Barbados? That is my field of study at this
Captain William Daniell of Middlesex did not marry Dorothy Forth as reported
in some circles. There is no proven parental connection for William of
Col. William Daniel of Wigan was the proven son of Peter Daniel II and
Christian Grosvenor of Over Tabley, England.
