There seems to be some confusion on records between my group and yours, though I do
believe your group and mine are related but exactly HOW is a big question. There is STILL
a lot more work to be done on these DANIEL's, much of the believed theories just do
not hold to scrutiny.
Here is what I know that can be documented.....
1820 Tattnall Co., Georgia
Isaac DANIEL is age 16-26, with wife and child.
This Isaac is son of Elias DANIEL and Elizabeth PEARCE, who married to Celia PARKER in
1817 Tattnall. Isaac's father Elias, died in 1812 Tattnall. Elizabeth did not die
until after 1850 US Census. (these are my 4th & 5th great-grandparents) Isaac and
Celia moved to Columbia Co., FL before 1840.
1820 Tattnall Co., Gerogia
Aaron DANIEL is 45 in age , married Mary Stanaland in 1801 Bulloch Co., Georgia. He and
Elias moved to Tattnall Co. They had 7 known children, 6 girls and 1 boy, Zachariah. When
Aaron died by 1830, which was when his will was probated in Tattnall, Isaac (above) was
administrator for his uncles' estate.
Re: Enoch Daniel, b. 1799, Liberty Co., Georgia, is the son of ABRAHAM DANIEL & Jane
Moore, married Ann E. Bird before 1833.
Court records in Tattnall, Bulloch, Burke, & Liberty confirm this portion of lineage.
WHAT is NOT certain is the parentage of Elias, Aaron, Abraham, above. Most researchers
have attached them to Aaron DANIEL & Elizabeth WHITFIELD, but as we see from records
above, IF the Elias (of 1774 record) IS CORRECTLY PLACED, he would have had to be born
about 1753, meaning Aaron would have been 14 years old and Betsey 13, at the birth of
Elias. I just do not agree that is reasonable. I think it is more likely that he
descended from one of the older Daniel-Lanier boys.
The oral history told in my group, was that originally from England, part of the family
relocated to Wales following a difference in political opinion with other family. It was
from Wales that my group started leaping across the pond. (probably 1500-1600)
Here are a few records that may help ...
1774 - Elias DANIEL - signed a petition in Parish of St. George (Burke Co., Georgia) - (He
would have to have been at least 21 years old meaning he was born by 1753.) Had apparently
been one of many who had signed a protest petition to the crown, and were then recanting
their signature, stating they had been deceived. This seems to indicate some alligence to
the crown at least in 1774.
1777 - Isaac O'DANIEL - Wilkes Co. Georgia - appointed appraiser.
1786 - Wm. DANIEL obtained a land warrant in Burke (was from SC)
1787 - Elias DANIEL (1) obtained a land warrant in Burke (this would be the same as 1774)
1787 - Elias DANIEL, Jr.(2) - obtained a land warrant in Burke (Jr. could indicate son of
Elias above or a 2nd Elias, possibly the son of William, Thomas John,Josiah or even
Abraham) This may be the Elias that went to Tattnall
1788 - Elias Daniel (1)- land warrant - Burke
1788 - William Daniel - land warrant - Burke
