Until someone can send you a copy, I read and abstracted the original from LDS film #31172
(it's also on film #1929932 but I didn't look at that filming).
This deed seems to be mis-cited: it's actually Deed Book 13, not 12. By the way,
Dorman also abstracted this volume and I didn't spot anything different from or
additional to his.
Robert Williams of St Ann's Parish Essex, with consent of my now wife Katherin, 29 Jul
1710, unto my daughters in law Katherine, Margery and Mary Ballinger, together with my son
in law Edward Ballinger.
Unto Katherine Ballinger one good milch cow to be delivered when she is for herself.
Unto my daughter Margery one good milch cow when she shall call for her.
Unto my daughter Mary Ballinger one good milch cow when my son in law William Daniell
shall see fitt.
Unto Edward Ballinger my son in law two cow calves when my son in law Wm Daniell shall see
Also unto my son in law Edward Ballinger one good colt.
Sig: Robert Williams (x)
Wits: Wm Thompson, Wm Moseley, Wm Bryand (x), John Makeney (x).
10 Aug 1710 ackn by Robert Williams.
I didn't make note of any formal attestation by Katherine Ballenger in the witness
section or after the deed; I certainly might have missed it, but it also might just be the
author of your citation applying the term "attested by" to the deed's phrase
"with the consent of my now wife". Looks like your quote may be from Bruce
Ballenger's post to the list back in Feb 2000, wondering did he get it from
someone's write-up, i.e. Heinemann or some such?
I also just found where Joe Daniel and Bruce Ballenger conversed about this in 1999-2000
at genforum (http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/ballinger/231/
- has two
follow-up comments). Joe posted some fuller wording of the first part of the deed, but he
says "of the county of York and parish of St. Ann", has to be a boo-boo, there
was no St. Anne's that included any of York. Also, in one of the replies, Joe
describes Essex DB16, p. 159 as being from Robert Williams to William Daniel for 116
acres, but it's actually:
DB16-159 16 Feb 1719/20 William Daniel of Essex Co unto my son in law James Lindsey 116a
on Pumansend Swamp grtd by deed to William Daniell fr William Berry. wit Richd Booker,
Edmd Booker. 16 Feb 1719(20) ackn by Wm. Daniel.
[Pumansend Swamp is in today Caroline]
Hope someone can send you the original to help more,
Pam in CA

Does anyone have a copy of the deed in which Robert Williams names
William Daniel as his son-in-law? Also is this the same deed by Robert
"a deed of gift in the Deeds and Wills No. 12 1707-1711 of Essex County
Virginia. The deed is date 29 July 1710 where Robert Williams of St.
Ann's Parish, with consent "of Katherine my now wife" make gifts unto
daughters in law Katherine, Margery and Mary -- son in law Edward
Ballenger. The term "in law" probably translates to "step". The
is attested by Katherine Ballenger."
