You are truly a blessing! I have Nancy Payton living next door to James Daniel in
Oglethorpe in 1800.
This James would have to be the one with the brother Chesley as Nancy Payton's son
Leroy used the name Chesley for one of his sons. I believe that his is the James from
Elizabeth as well.
Thank you for straightening me out on the James. Others have put them as one person.
I know that Woodson can not be proven with documentation but there are so many connections
to the Woodson clan for my family.
William and Nancy's son Cornelius Payton had a son Randolph Payton who married Sarah
Tarlton (Tarelton) who comes from the Tarleton line who married into the Woodson line.
This is my great-great-grandmother.
Valentine Payton in 1790 Wilkes Co, Ga. witnessed a deed along with George Christian and
William Christian who are from the Christian line that married into the Woodson line. One
of the Paytons from William/Nancy married George W. Christian. I believe that this
Valentine is William Paytons brother. Not sure but Valentine has popped up in our Payton
line for generations.
There are Woodson marriages to Coffey (Coffee) and this same Coffey line is found in my
There are many other Woodson connections to my ancestors so it would not surprise me if
there was a Daniel/Woodson connection.
James in Oglethorpe, Ga had 22 slaves in 1800 and died inn Greene County, Georgia.
No, I did not know about the court record for Daniel/Peyton in Granville, but I have just
begun to scratch the surface of Granville records. This makes sense as there was a Thomas
Peyton who married a Rogers in 177? in Granville. And, there are Rogers connections to
the Payton line in Surry Va and later moved to Northampton Co, NC. My grandmother
Payton's line. And, Leroy Payton is said to have married a Mille Rogers but his
descendants are trying to disprove this.
I am in bed with bad bronchitis and can not get up to get to my file cabinet. I have
begun putting all my data on a spreadsheet, but I have not finished with that task yet.
Please keep me updated with anyting else you can tell me about this Daniel line.
I have always wondered how a Daniel got into my family. Years ago when I was researching
the Brooks line I began corresponding with a woman who came from the line of Tandy Daniel
(b.1810 NC). His daughter Martha married Joseph Brooks. She came to Orlando to visit
friends and I dropped by to see her. She kindly made me a copy of a photograph of Tandy
and when she handed it to me my jaw dropped. This was a picture of my Brother! Since then
I have know there was a Daniel somewhere in my past but I never knew until now.
