Thomas Jefferson Danford
Born May 9, 1843 and died July 15, 1829. His parents were Thomas and Loisa (Sloan)
Danford. He had 6 siblings: Alexander, John, Jasper, Lee, Jimmie, Taylor, Elizabeth and
Thomas joined the Army of the Confederacy 3/20/1862 at 19 years of age. Company A. 45th
Regiment, Alabama Infantry, and released at Camp Douglas 6/30/1865.

Thomas came to TX from Alabama and married Sue McAlpine. He had a farm and saw mill in
Grimes County, TX in the piney woods.
Thomas and Sue had 2 boys. William who first married Betty Curtis and after her death
married Mattie Suggitt. He has one adopted daughter Lydia. The second son, John Alexander
married Clara Blumberg, whos father August came to Waller County, TX from Grimitz,
Germany. They landed in Galveston in 1846 when August was a small boy. Clara's
mother, Marie, and her father August were married in 1869. Marie's first husband
Albert was a brother of August. Albert died and was buried at sea in 1867, when they were
coming to America to join Albert's family who migrated in 1846.
John Alexander and Clara Blumberg Danford came to Retreat in Grimes County, TX from Waller
County about 1902. They ran a store and grist mill and also boarded teachers. They lived
in Retreat until 1912, about the time the school moved its location to the White Hall
Community. Then they moved to Courtney, Grimes County, TX. They lived there until they
John and Clara had 5 daughters and one son: Marie Callaway, Susie Harris, Julian Danford,
Anita Mims, Ruby Walker, and Jonnie C. Pontius.
