My ancestor, James Simpson Daniel, was married in Hall County GA in 1837 and
remained in the state until moving his family to Searcy County AR in late
1849. I haven't been able to pin down his place of birth (1811) or parents,
siblings. Doesn't seem there's a connection to your relative at this point.
However, it's rumored that he was blind, at least later in life. I have a
photo of him that may lend some credence to the rumor, but there are no facts
to support this. It's interesting you brought this up.......I'd never
thought of a congenital condition. There doesn't seem to be significant eye
problems in later generations. Heart disease is a recurring theme in my tree
and more distant relatives who have kept in touch. Thanks for sharing your
