My ggggrandmother was Martha Daniel Tatum, presumably d/o John Daniel, Sr.
Martha was b. c1755 probably in Brunswick Co, VA. She m. Edward Tatum c.
1772 and the family lived in that part of Pittsylvania Co. that became Henry
Co in 1777.
We think that Martha Daniel Tatum d. c1793-1800. Edward and his younger
children migrated to Franklin Co, GA, Lincoln Co, TN and settled in Jefferson
Co., AL. c. 1820.
Below are some abstracts. It is believed that John Daniel, Sr. had a first
wife Elizabeth who d. after 1760 and that John Daniel, Sr. m. 2) Sarah. The
deed of gift below presumably is intended to protect Mary as perhaps the only
child of the second marriage. Martha and her husband Edward Tatum are
witnesses to that deed. On 14 Dec 1808, Mary C. Daniel of Franklin Co. GA
gave her "trusty friend Edward Tatum of county and state aforesaid" power of
attorney to give deed to purchaser of land drawn in Wilkinson Co, GA.
[Franklin Co, GA Deed Bk RRR, pp67-68]. Mary Daniel was living with Edward
Tatum in Jefferson Co, AL in 1830 where she is listed on the census as bet
60-70 yrs (thus b. 1760-1770) and Edward 80-90 yrs.

the 1740s with a close association with Peter Daniel. Am anxious to sort
out this line!
