Someone inquired about the descendents of the Jack Daniel for whom the
famous whiskey is supposedly named.
While there are certainly many individuals named Jack Daniel, it is my
understanding there is no Jack Daniel who is memorialized in the name of
the famous whiskey. The Motlow family has always owned the Jack Daniel
distillery. There is a family member named Jack Daniel Motlow. I too have
seen references to a Jack Daniel and his tombstone, etc. etc. College
friends of mine who are the sons and daughters of the Motlow's, owners of
Jack Daniel's Distellery, told me the distillery was NOT named after any
real person named Jack Daniel.
All that being said, I would love to have proof that I am wrong. Previous
respondents have stated there is a tombstone with a Jack Daniel's name on
it. While that probably is true, that alone is not sufficient evidence to
connect this person to the distillery. And what I have seen on the net
merely makes a connection to a man named Jack Daniel. Does anyone have a
REAL connection to the liquor company??
If I am incorrect, my deepest apologies, but please correct my
understanding of the facts with a direct connection to the distellery. THANKS!
James D. Daniel
