The above question was asked regarding the family assignment for Samuel Coleman Daniel who
I believe to be the son of John Daniel, born bet 1730-1740 the son of William Daniel, Jr.,
of Essex/Caroline Co., VA. Dr. James E. Daniel gives the names of the children of John and
Frances Martin, and as proof, a will of 1778, but he does not state where the will was
probated. Dr. Daniel's notes were used by Mrs Christine Gee for her book about John
Daniel of Laurens, SC..
Notes for Samuel:
Listed in census for Shelby County, KY (1810) with 6 sons and 2 daughters. In "Forks
of Elkhorn Church" the marriage date for Samuel Coleman Daniel and Nancy Bracket is
shown as 1798. The correct date of1789 is shown in the Jefferson County Records. All the
children except Robert Coleman were listed in the census period 1810-1860.
Since Samuel Coleman Daniel is referred to as "Coleman Daniel" in Jefferson,
Shelby and Mercer Co., KY, any reference prior to 1811-1812 was in all probability to
Samuel Coleman Daniel as "Coleman Daniel", son of Benjamin was not "of
age" until this time.
