Well, it has taken a long time but I finally found out who the Julia
FLORENCE was who married Robert W. DANIEL, Esq. (1810-1865) of Jefferson
County, GA -- Elizabeth Julia FLOURNOY, daughter of Capt, Robert Watkins
FLOURNOY, Sr. and Mary COBB(s) of Montgomery County, GA. Elizabeth Julia
FLOURNOY was born on 25 May 1815, probably in Montgomery County, GA and she
married Robert W. DANIEL on 25 May 1841 -- her birthday. That marriage date
was the fact that confirmed this assignment.
What has confused me for so long is that she was listed in the 1850
Jefferson County, GA census as age 26 and her name was listed as Rachael
DANIEL. In fact, her name was Julia and she was age 36 in 1850, which once
again shows us how accurate census records are, doesn't it?
Some FLOURNOEY records state she died on 5 Apr 1841 but I know this is in
error. She probably died on 5 Apr 1851 because we know she died between the
birth of her 1st son (1849) and Robert's subsequent remarriage on 23 Mar
1852. So, Robert was a honorable man who waited a year after the death of
his wife to remarry, as was the custom of the time.
I have updated all of my records to reflect this new assignment. I do
not know how the FLOURNOY family ties into my DANIEL family but I assume
they do at some point. I do know that Julia's older brother, Robert Watkins
FLOUNOY, Jr. Esq. was an attorney in Washington County, GA and that he later
removed to Van Zandt County, TX.
Robert and Julia's known children: Julia R. DANIEL (b. 1842/43, married
Luther C. SMITH in Jefferson County, GA in 1859). Mary G. (or S.) DANIEL
(b. 1847/1848 married Lewis WILCOXSON of Lauderdale County, AL in 1868 in
Jefferson County, GA). James R. DANIEL (b. 1849, possibly married a Sarah
Julia MURPHY about 1870).
Any information on this FLOURNOY or DANIEL Family is appreciated.
