I am a new poster on the message boards and would like to wish a Merry Christmas to the
DANIEL board members. While I've done a great deal of genealogical research on my
line, I am very new to DNA testing. My brother has recently supplied a DNA sample which I
submitted to Ancestry DNA. I subsequently learned of the DANIEL DNA Project at Family
Tree DNA and transferred our results there. On FT DNA, our kit number is B1458. We took
the 46 marker test at Ancestry, which transferred as a 25 marker test to FT DNA. I
ordered an FT DNA upgrade kit, which will increase our results to 37 markers. My brother
will supply the addtional DNA for the upgrade and I'll submit that as soon as
Our earlieast known DANIEL is Theophilus, born abt 1786 in North Carolina, married
Penelope Goodson. I am one of those who are searching for the "elusive" William

First, if there is anyone out there who has not yet tested, I will pay for
one new test. We need data from new members. Just email Kevin and me and we
can get it done.
Second, realize that there are now Y-111 STR marker tests available. I have
tested to the 111 level and have done the Walk the Y, but we do not expect
everyone to do this. I have, with Kevin's help, upgraded all of my little
family group to 67 markers. 12 marker tests are not enough. Upgrade as you
Third, test mtDNA and Family Finder if you wish. Personally I'm into male
Y-DNA and not interested in mtDNA and Family Finder.
Fourth, don't overtest. No need to test brothers and known cousins. My most
significant match is with a descendant of my ggg-gf born 1791 whose brother
was born 1797. So select your test candidates carefully.
Finally, consider haplogroup and SNP testing. Are you a Viking or a Celt?
