Just to correct previously published reports:
1. A Marmaduke Daniel, JR. is not in Chatham Co., NC in 1779
2. Marmaduke Daniel is not listed on the 1790 Chatham Co. , NC census.
That said, Marmaduke died in 1802 in Chatham Co., NC leaving no Will and no Heirs. His wife seems to have predeceased him. He put his affairs in order and sold his land shortly before his death, most of it to Gilliam Daniel
In May, 1802 Gilliam Daniel qualified as the Administrator of the Estate of Marmaduke Daniel. He also purchased most of the items from the estate sale.
Thus the exact relationship between these two men is still unknown but I suspect that they were brothers or cousins.
I do not think that this is the same Marmaduke Daniel found in Brunswick Co., VA in 1767. Carole

My mother's maternal great grandmother was named Elvira Daniel(s) and she was born in Tazewell County, VA. Her parents were born in nearby NC I believe, but later settled in Tazewell County, VA. I've noted that the use of the S at the end of Daniels is a hit or miss. Sometimes it is included and sometimes it is not. Is this any relation to your branch?

One more John Daniel who needs a family.
John Daniel is listed as one of the earliest settlers of Posey County, IN - had a house up on the bluff overlooking the Ohio River in 1816. He had two children I know of: Thomas and "Syrus" or Cyrus (two of the spellings).
His will was p;robated July 27, 1823 or 1825.
Names John Dunn as guardian of boys. Administrator was John Dunn with Joseph Spaulding. William T. Daniel Security.
The William T. Daniel does not fit with my line who were in that county.
Has anyone a clue as to this John Daniel's roots? Right now he just hangs there, an orphan.
