Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

It would seem likely to me that GEORGE WASHINGTON DANIEL was MAJOR

anyone tell me how these three fit?
Looking for information on Daniel DANIELS (1816-1895) who m. Margaret
(1821-1880) and immigrated from Wales to US (Luzerne Cty, PA) sometime before
1850. He has been listed as both a farmer and a Congregational minister in
vicinity of Clifford Twp and Hazleton, PA.
Children are John, Morgan (m. Mame), William, Samuel (m. Sarah), Mary Ellen
(m. Thomas A. Williams), Elizabeth, Annie, Emaline, and Maggie. Indications
are they pretty well remained in Luzerne Cty, PA.
Family is listed in 1870 census in Clifford Twp, and children were
approaching 20 at this time. Haven't been able to find them in Hazleton in
1880, and, assuming the women got married, I have no way to track them into
later times, except family memories.
If anyone is researching this family, any information would be greatly

Please remember to send a check or money order with Rootsweb in the payee

list you are on. This helps me when I acknowledge the arrival of the
donation. If there is anyone out there who doesn't know what this is about
let me briefly explain--awhile back when our server went down a new server
was added by Rootsweb to accomodate us. This was a $6,000.00 investment and
they didn't ask us for a dime. I proposed to my lists that we take up a
donation to help with the cost of the new server. Many of our members have
responded. It IS NOT necessary to donate and no one will know who does and
doesn't. You DO NOT have to donate or pay dues to be on this list! Many who
are already current sponsor of Rootsweb have written explaining that you
already have sent in sponsorship and that is fine. This is in no way related
to sponsorship of Rootsweb.
Let's all keep looking for ancestors and I hope we all find ours. One
note--some of my lists have been very inactive and I'd like to encourage
everyone to get involved and send in your queries, desc. charts etc to the
list. Maybe we'll find some links.
Have a great weekend,
Hello. Just wanted to let everyone know that I hadn't fell off the face of
the earth--I just feel as though I did <G>! We had a terrible storm blow
through this last Friday and it knocked 5 trees over on our power line. We
just got power back to our house this morning (Wed.). If anyone has tried to
e-mail me in the mean time please let me know as AOL starts deleting after
about 100 messages (I usually get 60 or so a day) so I know I may have missed
some. A friend tried to keep up with it for me but it is quite a chore and I
don't know how many AOL deleted before she could get to it. BTW, donations
have rolled in this week. Sure was glad to hear from you all via snail mail
as it was my only communication means. I'll give an update as soon as I
catch up. If you sent in--I'll be sending acknowledgements as soon as I get
caught up on my e-mail.

Is anyone researching the DANIEL family in this area?
Thanks for the quick reply. I don't know what Peter Daniel's
religious leanings were. However, his granddaughter married into a
German Methodist family, so a best guess would be Methodist. I've seen
no trace of them in Quaker records (where my direct line Dennys/Denneys
appear often from 1800 on). As far as Peter's roots, I thought
originally that perhaps he was from Kentucky, since his wife, Christina
was born there. However, I really don't have any idea at this time
where he came from. The given name Peter doesn't seem to be common in
the Daniel lines I've looked at, so I suspect the earlier Peter Daniel I
listed was an ancestor and that Peter's origins lie with him. Your
Joseph could well be a brother or cousin of my later Peter Daniel, based
on Joseph's birth date and the similar given names for their children,
but who knows???
Do you have anything on Christina Atchison's ancestry or family?
(Many thanks for her surname and marriage date, which was new info.)
Below are the notes from my genealogy program for the later Peter
Daniel, in case they're of any help:
A Peter Daniel was listed as a voter in the Clark County, Indiana April
, 1809 election but did NOT appear on the 1807 voters list. It appears
that his will was probated in Nov., 1818 in Clark County, IN. Clark
County, Indiana eventually became other counties: Jefferson, Jennings,
Ripley, Washington, Jackson, Floyd, and Scott. This could be Peter's
father (if he died very young) or more likely, his grandfather...
I did not find any Peter Daniels in the 1830 Jackson Co., IN census, but
Peter and his family were living in Jackson County, Indiana at the time
of the 1840 census and he had one male child under the age of 5. (This
would be his eldest son John C.)
He was listed as a farmer with $400 of real estate in the 1850 Howard
County, IN census. He was living in the Taylor Township at the time and
his age would be about 39 or 40 at the time. It appears that he
remained in Indiana until at least 1856 or 1857, based on his youngest
child's birth state.
Peter was listed as a farm tenant in the 1860 census for Coles County,
IL and he was living in the Hutton Township. He was about 52 at the
Since his daughter Elizabeth married in Coles County in 1871, chances
are good that Peter still lived there at the time.
I don't want to clutter up the Daniel list here, but will send you
separately, a complete printout of what I have on Peter's family down
through his grandchildren (with all misc. notes, which are verbose for
some family members).

money order or check with Rootsweb in the payee blank.

Cass announcements: 2.00
Okay, I've had a bunch of folks wanting to know what the donation stuff was
about so either we have a lot of new members or some of you missed this

Well it has been a long and furious time for me but there does seem to be a
means to an end here.
Sadly, Maiser will no longer be our home. Maiser will continue to have
regional lists that Larry himself owns but even Larry's surname lists are
being moved out also.
It seems that rootsweb normally allows supporters ($24.00 a year members) to
have 2 e-mail lists. As you might guess, with 10 e-mail lists I didn't see
where this would be an option for me. However, rootsweb out of their own
generosity has allowed all Maiser genealogy list owners to bring ALL of their
lists to rootsweb with no limit and waiving the normal membership.
I for one have been totally unaware of what all rootsweb offers for us
genealogists until all of this broke out. I knew of there support of the
GenWeb project as they allow us county sponsors to put all of our county web
pages on their server free of charge. But, it goes much further than that.
Do you realize that rootsweb is two individuals who run this out of their
own pockets except for the donations they receive from members? I didn't
realize this myself. So I for one will be taking all 10 of my e-mail lists
to rootsweb and becoming a supporter there of. Now, the listmembers do no
have to be members nor do they have to pay anything to be on my lists but I
would like to send in a contribution to rootsweb in the name of our
e-mail list. So if anyone sees fit to donate to this project please send a
check or money order to me with Rootsweb in the pay to blank (NO CHECKS TO
ME). When I have set a deadline I will send the money to Rootsweb in the
name of the e-mail list it is from. I want to encourage everyone to
participate. The folks at rootsweb over the past week has went out and
bought a new $6000.oo server to handle all these new lists they'll be hosting
from MAISER's shutdown. If everyone on a list would just send a dollar they
could easily repay the cost of the server purchased. Remember, this is a
time when it doesn't matter how small or how large the gift--just give. Now,
as listowner I will never bring this up again. I may send you updates on the
amount sent etc. but I will never again ask you to send a donation to
rootsweb. I am going to include something in my new welcome letter about it
so that new members will know, rootsweb has said that once or twice a year
they will send out a notice to all listmembers but they have promised it
won't be an arm twisting type notice. I think they are doing us a great
service by taking all of us MAISER folks in during our time of need. Believe
me folks, I haven't just sat on my tuff during this time, I have looked
around for options and the cheapest I found for a list was a place that
charged $24.00 a year per list (Larry had us spoiled!!!). Of course rootsweb
had the same offer and you could have two lists but that's all the lists I
could have had so the other 8 lists would have been without a home. I thank
God they have made this offer. I didn't want to loose any of my lists.
Okay, now for the other stuff. Since we'll be moving to rootsweb there will
be a whole new way of doing things. Not just for me but for you too. We're
going to have to learn all of this together. Let's all keep our patience and
be understanding to our fellow members during this change over. I will be
changing over 10 lists so please bear with me as I am learning a new system
too. When things are more progressed I will let you know and send more
