HI! I am new to this list. I have an ancestor named Frances Eliza. I'm
not sure exactly how her last name was spelled. It is one of the
following variations I have written.
(STURTEVANT, STURDEVANT, STURDUVANT, STURDEVANT, etc.)
(we get her maiden name from her son's death certificate-which is
difficult to see the exact spelling)
My father tried to find a birth certificate in New York-(b. 1804 in
Albany, New York according to her death certificate, but could be
innacurate) other family members unknown. She may have been born in
Connecticut.
Frances and her husband would frequently come to Connecticut. We have
heard there was a family house there that they would live in for periods
of time. She married a George Paterson OVERING abt. 1829 or before,
location unknown- possibly Connecticut. They came to New York City in
1831, prior to that George established a Whip making company in 1824
location unknown which he continued in NYC. for many years until his sons
and grandsons took over.
She died in New Canaan, Fairfield, Connecticut in 1889, 1 month after
suffering a cerebral hemorrhage in New Canaan. (later she was buried in
NYC. NY)
I would like to find Frances Eliza's parents, sibblings, etc.
If you know anything about any of these names I would appreciate hearing
from you.
How could I get a local newspaper from New Canaan, or Fairfield County
during the short time prior to her death and after? ( obituaries, etc.)
Thanks, Cheryl Woodall
