Hi. The quote below is from a cousin who remembers talking to my grt.
grandfather abt. a family house originally owned by Frances Eliza
STURTEVANT (b. April 1804- location unknown-died Nov. 1889 in New
Canaan, Conn. at her home) and her husband George Paterson OVERIN (G).
(I have directory of NYC that shows that they at least owned the house in
1885 and 1890. (George died in 1890 & must've been willed to his son
George Douglas OVERIN. (father of my grt-grandfather)
How do I find out more information about the House?
How can I find out what Sturtevants (whatever variation of spelling )
lived in New Canaan, Conn. during the 1800's? I don't know who Frances'
family were. I have seen some Sturtevants in Fairfield County on the
Internet.
Now, here is the quote....
"BINGO!!! Yes, for sure the family had a place in New Canaan, CT. Take
this
along with the whip/leather shop in Manhattan, as well and we sure do
have a
connection. I remember Grandpa talking about living in New Canaan and
going
to school there, where to me it seemed to be way back in the old
fashioned
days from what he would describe (No plumbing back then, which we of
course
already had when I came along for quite a while in NYC)."
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions...
Thanks,
Cheryl
