I am sending this to both the MA and the CT list. I pray that someone might
recognise this family. I've got basicly nowhere in the last 7 years (found
a death date for William, and that's about it. no will/probate, no death
record, no nuthin'!)
Thanks in advance for any help. I'm totally stumped.
William ROSS b. abt 1792 of CT/MA m. Cynthia whose surname may be ROSS, b.
abt 1800, also of CT/MA. They had one known child, Cynthia Ross b. May 7,
1836, Randolph, Portage, OH. Cynthia "Jr." m. John Young PEARSON, b. Feb 22
1831, St. Clair, Allegheny, PA. Cynthia and John had three daughters, my
ancestress being Stella Morn PEARSON b. Apr 15, 1863, Atwater or Edinburgh,
Portage, OH. Stella m. Reverend James Franklin CROSS b. May 1, 1859,
Navarre, Stark, OH. attempts to trace either Wm or Cynthia have been pretty
fruitless and frustrating. They are listed as b. in CT on one census, in MA
on another, and in MA on their daughter's death record, but the informant
was her physician!
Ok. absorb that part, 'cause it's the easy section. now tie the next part
into the part you just read.
James Franklin CROSS's sister, Mary Jane CROSS b. Jul 13, 1851, Lancaster,
PA m. George Y. BUNNELL, b. Apr 15, 1849, son of Ira H. BUNNELL and Mary
ROSS. uh, oh, there's that Ross surname, again......you guessed it. Mary
ROSS, b. abt 1821, somewhere in OH (Summit Co.?) was either the cousin or
the niece of either William or Cynthia ROSS (OR BOTH!) but I don't know
Mary ROSS's parentage, nor her ancestry (probably the gdaughter of a
brother of William or Cynthia ROSS.)
Well, that wasn't so bad, after all, but I've never had to climb down one
family tree to climb up another one that will eventually (William or
Cynthia'S parents) end up at the first place. And around she goes!-first
case of recycled genealogy I know of. so how does this look on a chart?
unprintable! (take that whichever way you wish to-they all fit! LOL!)
actually, something like this-
Unk. Ross abt 1765
|
|-----------------------------------------------------|
unk. Ross Wm Ross
Unk. spouse Joseph & Hannah Smith Cross Cynthia R.
| | |
Ira Bunnell | Cynthia R.
Mary Ross |--------------------------| J.Y. Pearson
| | | |
Geo. Bunnell-Mary Jane Cross James F Cross-Stella Pearson
hope it transfers ok <g>. there could possibly be an extra generation
between Mary and the 1st unknown Ross.
William ROSS's are a penny a dozen (intentionally misquoted) in OH, but
Cynthia ROSS's are not to be found, except for the ROSS-PEARSON m. license
of Portage OH (even got m. on Halloween). I can't figure which William is
mine (and William and Cynthia were so kind to deposit Cynthia "Jr." at John
and Nancy WHITLESEY's and completely disappear when the 1850 census taker
started making his rounds. I could shake them 'till their teeth fell out,
for that one!)
two people who are known to be related are Azariah and Mariah ROSS, both of
whom were residing with the Bunnells when they died, and both had not
attained their thirtieth year. There are other Azariah Ross's in the area
whom I suspect are related.
I am curious about an Amariah ROSE, noted in the History of Geauga Co., OH
as having been born in 1792 in Branford, CT. could he be a relation, as well?
