Well now, looks like I'll be moving all my stuff off Rootsweb,
I don't
like the fact that Ancestry added their logo to my pages, I don't endorse
them and I personally think they overcharge for their information. Do I
remember wrong or didn't Ancestry say when they took over Rootsweb that they
wouldn't interfere with the Genweb pages?

Hi, Kathy! I'm so glad to hear from you. Your address was bouncing.
Regarding
Ancestry.com, I have known them to be generous and responsive over
the years--in offering
free space to members of the USGenWeb Project. They continue to do so.
Following some new directives from the parent company, The Generations
Network, it seemed time for CTGenWeb to grow beyond Rootsweb and was spurred forward
when the mandatory mastheads were introduced to each of the hosted pages
housed on RW. (A new requirement, which USGenWeb had been working hard to
facilitate.)
Until recently, USGenWeb Projects pages housed on
Rootsweb.com, were
banner-free--RW brand-free.
But with the aquisition of The Generations Network by Spectrum Equity
Investments, new priorities were established by the company, including the imposition
of
TGN/Rootsweb.Ancestry.com brand banners.
Here's the announcement of the aquisition:
http://myfamily.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=111
So, after some discussion with then-SC George Waller, a request for comments
regarding a move to an independent server, was posted to CTGen(a)rootsweb.com,
for discussion and comments.
Following overwhelmingly positive comments to move, such a move was made.
Soon after that announcement and move off
Rootsweb.Ancestry.com and as the
web mistress of CTGenWeb, I announced that there was approx. 1500 gigabytes of
space included in the hosting package and that free space was available for for
CCs and TCs.
Several coordinators (both town and county), took advantage of the offer and
have moved on over.
BUT, there is NO requirement to move to
CTGenWeb.org.
To repeat: Many CCs and TCs still choose to continue having
Rootsweb.Ancestry.com host their pages.
Only you can decide what's right for you, whether or not the extensive work
involved moving, changing links and trouble-shooting such a move is an
advantage--or not worth the angst.

I'm trying to absorb all this new information, for some reason my
isp
decided that it needed to monitor my messages and I just got 48 of them
delivered today with
rootsweb.com in the address.
----------snip-------------
That's a lot all at once. I'm glad you're back and able to communicate.

Obviously I have missed out on something because I have no idea what's
really going on here.

:-) I hope the previous explanation helps.
To all CCs and TCs: please make a note to contact your leaders, should you
change e-mail addresses.

So do I understand this correctly, CTGenweb is no longer housed on
rootsweb's servers? What are we suppose to use as a logo, do we have to
wait for a new design? I have the USGenweb Project logo on mine do I have to
remove it? What's this about space on CTGenweb, do we have servers and what
is the cost? I can move them to the my web site in space allotted by my isp
but if I go over the limit it will cost me extra.

1. CTGenWeb is now housed at its own domain:
www.CTGenWeb.org
2. As Pat graciously posted (thanks, Pat!), we are still to use one of four
approved USGW logos--at a minimum, on your home page in a prominant way.

The USGenWeb Project logo should be prominently displayed on your page. In
addition, your state might have an official state logo that you will be expected
to have on your page."*
(Copies of the approved logos are here:

CTGenWeb.org does not YET have a logo, but a contest is in the works. CC
Pat Sabin has posted the announcement (thanks, Pat and Grace, for coordinating
this!).

I'm not going to bother to update the pages on Rootsweb, I'll just upload
new ones with updated links to another site and delete the ones on Rootsweb.
I will need a few days, I have had the unlucky draw to get saddled with
"*&^%#" jury duty starting Tuesday, hopefully it won't last long.
Kathy
Sounds great. Please keep your CC up-to-date on your progress (and your CC
will let me and ASC, Jim Rothgeb, know).
Good luck, Kathy!
I hope your blankety-blank jury duty is over soon!
Thanks again,
