Maureen,
There is plenty of space (1500 GB of space) for other CCs and TCs, as
a
sub-directory (
ctgenweb.org/county/town, for example).
If any CC or TC wants to move off Rootsweb (or from elsewhere) to
CTGenWeb.org, please let me know.
I want to be among the first to jump on this bandwagon!! Just a
couple of weeks ago I moved my CT town sites off RootsWeb on to one
of my personal web sites / profiles. I am slowly running out of space
on my personal websites and would love to move my USGenWeb CT towns
to the State of CT new site. 2 of my towns are in New London County,
1 in Tolland County and one in Windham County:
USGenWeb Mansfield, CT
http://home.earthlink.net/~sgtusgw/ctmansfield/
USGenWeb New London, New London Co., CT
http://home.earthlink.net/~sgtusgw/ctnewlondon/
USGenWeb Norwich, CT
http://home.earthlink.net/~sgtusgw/ctnorwich/
USGenWeb Windham, Windham Co., CT
http://home.earthlink.net/~sgtusgw/ctwindham/
Subdirectories can be password-protected for anyone wanting their own
space
on the site through an FTP upload. If anyone has more experience with
this process than I, I welcome your help!
The Tech guy at powweb explained it to me and it sounds pretty simple--but so
far,...<
The coordinator of Plymouth County, MA, Dale Cook, has gotten
webspace for a nominal fee setting up a site called Plymouth Colony.
Under this site/account, he has created sub folders for each town
that are password protected. One can FTP to a specific sub folder/sub
directories with no access to the other folders/towns. He sent me
username, host address and password for FTP. I plugged the info into
my FTP utility and it works like a champ. I haven't the faintest idea
how he did it. He has administration powers to set up counters for
our pages. After I sent him the latest counter number on my Plymouth
home page, he sent me code for the counter to add to my page(s) that
started from the number I gave him.
The main page for Plymouth County:

Do let me know if, when, where.... my CT town sites can move to your
state site.

Hello,
I'm writing to announce that after consulting with SC George Waller, the
CTGenWeb Project has moved to its OWN domain:
http://www.ctgenweb.org.
George has asked me to keep the Rootsweb site up for a month, to smooth the
transition and allow the CCs and TCs time to change their
links. Tomorrow, I will place a note on the Rootsweb site home page with
appropriate links to the new site.
This year's subscription/registration has been anonymously donated.
The site is on
www.powweb.com, if anyone wants to see what they offer in
terms of added bells and whistles.
They have a bulletin board available, but I'm not sure if it can be installed
for each county, or if it can be just one per site?
If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.

far, I've only password-protected
folders/directories on another site I manage, not ftp ties to specific
directories.
