Julie,
Your source for the Barbour Collection viewed on-line is ***the*** webpage -
not the Barbour Collection. You need to cite the webpage and site and not
just the Barbour Collection for you haven't personally viewed the Barbour
Collection for Windham or whatever town in Windham County. It is important
to anyone reading your reports to know exactly where you got your info. This
holds true for any info gleaned from a CD or E-mail. In citing from a
website, the site, page, contributor of the material and date you actually
viewed it needs to be in the cite. There are **several** ways of doing it.
Here is an example of what I have used in the past when gleaning info from
the online Barbour Collection for a town in Windham County. Ohhhh, it is
also important to note there is not just one Barbour Collection for Windham
County. Each town has it own separate Barbour Collection and is so titled in
the original Barbour Collection Manuscripts.

I added Jan Harris as donator because I know she originally did the
transcription and donated it to the USGenWeb Windham County, CT project
years ago.

Last year when it was on another website with a different county
coordinator, it had a different title. I cited material gleaned from it as:
Barbour Collection Vital Records Index Windham County, transcription of the
Barbour Collection Connecticut Vital Records, Towns of Windham County,
Windham Births, Marriages, Deaths 1692 - 1850, "donated by" Jan Harris on
the Windham Connecticut County - USGENWEB website <[3]

I have not changed the cite for data I gleaned from the online stuff and
such even though the web address has changed becauseeee I want people to
know exactly when and where I got my data. There is always a chance
something gets changed in the transition from one website to another.
However, I may add the line: Now online at such and such address If for
some reason I go back and actually check any old data on a new website, I
completely update the cite.
Back in 2002 when it was another website, I cited it as:
Barbour Collection: Connecticut Vital Records, Towns of Windham County,
Windham Births, Marriages, Deaths 1692-1850, "donated by" Jan Harris
(online:

"Hi,
I have a question on the Barbour Collection of CT Vital Records.
I am citing them off the Windham County site and I am confused on the Vol.
and page numbers given. I read that there were 55 volumes of this
collection, yet the records given on the Windham County site are mostly
Vol
1 to 5. Especially looking at the records for the town of Windham, which
was
supposedly Volume 54. ???? I would like to cite them correctly in my
database"
