Item 2 - Discussion/clarification and reconciliation of confusion in
wording
(pages, meaning sites) within the USGenWeb Project bylaw and guidelines.
<snipped>
Current sites vary from just a few pages
to sites with thousands of pages. Consistent wording would clarify things
for the current and future site coordinators.
I don't know how any site could have or stay with just a few pages if they
do even just a little "requesting" and "talking about" (I hesitate to
use
the word "advertising" because someone might mis-construe my meaning) the
GenWeb county site. Sometimes "begging" might be the word. ;-) But,
whatever word, aren't CCs supposed to be drumming up interest and
submissions??
Just some questions to consider...
Is there a "guideline" for how fast we CCs have to update a site? (I try to
"as fast as my fingers type" so this is not much of an issue for me because
I'm always updating.)
" " " " " " " "
" have to answer
emails? (I try to answer within days to less than a week, but what about
CCs who work?)
" " " " " " " "
" have to put up
onto the web the submitted items? (I try to put items up within 2 weeks but
I'm getting more swamped so it is harder to maintain that schedule.)
Item 3 - Discussion of a requirement of an official USGenWeb Project
logo
on
USGenWeb Project pages. Opinion on this item is split more than on the
others.

And, it would help if US and States' logos were about the same
size and
pixel x pixel size.
Then, they'd easily fit into a display table.
Other suggestions/comments received:
<snipped>
My only comment is, most every person hates feeling like they are being
watched, observed, reviewed, etc. I feel this part of these summarized
comments will be tricky to implement.
Yet, as a related comment, it doesn't feel right that some CCs aren't
updating while others break record speed to keep expanding with new info.
And, as a new comment:
Sometimes, it seems like there is a margin of redundancy between US, State
(which has links to counties' info other than the GenWeb County site) and
the GenWeb County sites. Like if I do Census for the County site, it could
already be on the State>County link. (example: the Archives). As the
Internet has evolved, it seems like we're overlapping sometimes on
"projects" and that's discouraging at the base-county level. I wish if we
have "GenWeb County Sites", that the other places would be phased out
some... or curtailed somehow. I'm not sure I'm saying this right....
again, it just seems there's redundancy built into the system and repeated
data outside of the county level can take away from the official "GenWeb"
County Website. Examples: County & Twp. Maps, Census Transcriptions,
Cemetery Censi, etc. Maybe I'm wrong but it might be something to discuss
in the future.
