Hi, Everybody,
Below is a forwarded message from Denise Wells, the USGenWeb National Coordinator
regarding the proper trademark for The USGenWeb Project. I think we are OK, but please
take a moment to check how you refer to our project. It should the The USGenWeb Project
and The CTGenWeb Project - both with upper and lower case, and with no spaces (such as US
GenWeb or CT GenWeb). In some cases, I noticed that the .html title shows up in search
engines with the space between CT and GenWeb.
Also, make sure that your main page includes your name and email address. It is a USGenWEb
requirement. And, please check the date on your main page, and make sure it says 2015.
Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
Have a good weekend!

Subject: [STATE-COORD] Issue of GenWeb trademark
I will be having the AB reps review the states and counties in their regions to determine
if the depiction of our Project name and the State names and state logos are correct.
Our Project is not GenWeb. It is The USGenWeb Project.
It also is not IN GenWeb, for example.
Any use of GenWeb in writing or on a logo that does not include the two letter government
indicator for the state immediately connected to GenWeb is inappropriate and an
infringement on someone else's trademark.
For example, Hawaii's logo had their two letter state indicator separate from GenWeb.
They have graciously corrected that. All counties in Hawaii should have the appropriate
logo affixed to their counties.
Please review your state logo to determine that it is in compliance with our Bylaws and
our appropriate trademark. Also you will need to review with your coordinators that they
have the appropriate state logo on their sites and that any use of GenWeb written
separately whether in connection with US or the state indicator is appropriately
corrected.
AB members will be requested to begin their review of their states within the next 2-3
weeks and will be advising me as well as the leadership in each state.
With the 20th anniversary coming up and to be celebrated at the 2016 NGS Conference in
Fort Lauderdale, it will be much appreciated.
Thank you so much for your assistance in getting this accomplished.
Denise Wells
