Hey, Everyone,
Our web hosting with Powweb (Maureen's account) must be renewed ($131+) by the first
week in February, OR, moved back to
RootsWeb/Ancestry.Com. I have the RW passwords for
New London County and Tolland County, and I have requested the others from RootsWeb.
Except for Fairfield County, I think all the original parent directories still exist.
In case I cannot get the old passwords from RootsWeb, does anyone have your old
passwords?
Linda-Jeanne Dolby's Litchfield County and New Haven County sites are on her own
domain. I'd like to prepare to move, and fall back to continuing with Powweb if we
can't get it done in time.
If this comes together, and I have your Powweb passwords as well as your RootsWeb
passwords, I should be able to move your sites, and all you'll have to do is go in and
check links. Your internal county or town links should still work fine. The only link
that will change is the link to the main CTGenWeb page. It's that time of year,
anyway, that we should be checking links and updating sites. Of course, if I do the
initial move, you'll still need to set up your FTP program with the new/old
information.
We've talked a bit about town sites, and I don't want to impose my personal
opinions. There are some exceptional town sites, and we should appreciate those folks who
have dedicated themselves to developing their town information. We also have a multitude
of towns on other other domains, and the Town Coordinators haven't responded to roll
call in years. We know or suspect that some have died, but for now, their sites are still
online. In those cases, we cannot remove the site, nor can we have the USGenWeb/CTGenWeb
logos removed. All we can do is link or not link. If we link, I believe we should come up
with a standard disclaimer on the county page, so that visitors will be able to follow the
link, but know that any new data should be submitted to the County Coordinator. John
Pillis and Karen Steel have passed away. Ray Brown is not responding, and we suspect that
he is unable to maintain his sites. However, you might want to link to them with the
disclaimer.
Your thoughts and ideas???
