Hey, Everyone,
If you haven't already done so, please let me know before January 31st that you are
still active... or not, and if any of your contact information has changed. You may
respond on the list, or privately to me at patricia.sabin(a)comcast.net OR
newlondon(a)patsabin.com. Our Advisory Board member is waiting for our updates.
So far, I have heard from the following members:
Maureen Mead
Lynn Tooley
Rob Locke (who has resigned as town coordinator in Fairfield County)
Tom Pieragostini
Sharon Bausch
Julie Middleton
George Waller
I hope I haven't missed any. If you are receiving list messages, and are no longer
active, please let me know.
We know that there are deserted town sites on outside servers. If you link to sites that
are clearly abandoned, please give visitors a heads up that any NEW data should be
submitted to the County Coordinator. I would hate for volunteers to feel shut out. Linda
Pingel resigned last year. John Pillis is deceased. Ray Brown's email address has been
bouncing for quite a long time, and it appears that he has been gone since at least 2008.
I would just warn your visitors that they should contact you directly to make a
contribution. As we've discussed many times, The USGenWeb Project does not require
town sites. They are specific to New England states.
Please take a minute to add a 2016 copyright or a 2016 "Last Updated" to your
main page.
And...There's been a lot of discussion on various USGenWeb lists about Google
discriminating against sites that are not mobile friendly. If you are not up to
redesigning your entire site, you may want to make a few changes to your main page to make
it more mobile friendly. Google likes a larger font, contrast between the text and the
background, links spaced far enough apart that the user can click on a link without
hitting the adjacent link.
http://www.ctgenweb.org is mobile friendly, although no
special software was used. All Google is looking for is a site that is easy to navigate on
a desktop or laptop computer, a tablet, and a smart phone (even if it must be turned
horizontally to navigate the page).
Lynn Tooley has redesigned her pages to be mobile friendly, and I'm sure she can give
some tips.
Thanks, everyone, for your dedication. Let me know (privately, or on the list) if you have
any questions or concerns. I don't have all the answers, but I'll do my best.
Pat
