Mr. Broadhead,
I enjoyed reading your message. It would be an honor to serve as your second in Redding
and Fairfield. My family has roots in Fairfield too. My grandfather was William Armstrong
who was on a few building committees up to the early 1980s and his daughter Jean
married Franco Ventriglia the opera singer. I'm also friends with David Banks (Hill)
and Tom Grant (Banks) who you may know. They claim to be 13th generation Fairfield
(Greenfield Hill) residents!
It was their ancestor John Banks along with Lt. Joseph Judson who established the town
line separating Fairfield and Stratford in the 1660s. My father built
Tom Grant's Colonial reproduction house on the Redding Road after his antique home
burned down in 1972. You may know the house, it was just featured in Early American Life
Magazine. Did you know the Banks? They built several homes in Fairfield, did restoration
work on the Ogden House and saved an old saltbox house from Bridgeport reassembling it
in Nichols in the 1930s. I live in the Ephraim Hawley House in Nichols.
As for Redding, I'm very familiar with Dan Cruson who is active there and in Newtown.
I've produced episodes on Putnam Park and Northern Slavery with Dan as my guest.
Dan's father was my childhood dentist. My TV show is dedicated to local/state
history and is called "Connecticut Stories". It's broadcast in Fairfield and
Litchfield Counties on Charter Community Vision 21.
I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Tom Pieragostini

Dear Maureen,
I feel as though I am not meeting my obligations, when it comes to Redding,
CT. I have only had a few inquiries over the past few years, and there is
a splendid Redding website. I'm currently the President of the Gerrittsen
Beach Property Owners Association--a peninsula near Jamaica Bay (in
Brooklyn, NY). It is quite like being First Selectman to our community)
and have until recently, been Commander of both our local VFW Post, and
Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 27 Posts in Brooklyn, New
York. I notice a gentleman has offered to adopt Fairfield, a town of which
I descend from about a dozen of the founding families: Hill, Burr, Dimon,
Jackson, Rev. Jones (First Congregational Church), Bulkeley (a Royal line
"gateway family"), et al.... I was an elected member of the RTM and
Fairfield Historical Society, and continue to do research re: the families
of Fairfield.
This leads me to suggesting, if the gentleman who offered to be responsible
for Fairfield and you, would consider having dual coordinators for both
Fairfield and Redding. My role would be to assist him in any way, and his
being 'on location' he might also be able to include Redding on Facebook.
I particularly do not want to be imposing, so it is only a suggestion, if
it meets with everyone's satisfaction. Lastly, if you don't mind my giving
you some background on a personal note, I would ask that you put my name:
George R. Broadhead in google re: the New York State Senate Veterans Hall
of Fame, to which I was inducted, June, 201l. In May, I'll be making my
first parachute jump for my birthday, so my health and mental faculties
(although some might question the latter) are still going strong.
Nevertheless, upon reaching 80, it is only a matter of time. As I figure
it, about 15 or 20 more years. Sincerely, George R. Broadhead

Hello, CTGenWeb Volunteers
I'm wanting to post a few towns in Fairfield County that need to be
adopted.
With the passing of our wonderful volunteer and historian, Rod MacKenzie,
there is a huge gap in coordinators for researchers visiting the towns of
Fairfield Co. The following towns are available, should you want to serve:
The following towns have been opened up due to Rod's passing:
Fairfield, Norwalk, Weston and Westport, Fairfield, CT.
Additionally, the other towns have remained available:
Danbury, New Fairfield, and Sherman, CT.
Please let me know if you are interested in adopting a town in Fairfield.
