I am seeking any information about the following individuals:
John Budd Miller b.8 Jan 1805, possibly in New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT. He married
Abigail Ann Finch b.19 Jul 1810 in New Canaan, Fairfield Co., CT. John and Abigail are
buried in Unadilla Center Cemetery, Unadilla Center, Otsego Co., NY.
John Budd's father, Increase Miller was born 4 Jan 1779 in Bedford, Westchester Co.,
NY. Increase is burried in Unadilla Center Cemetery with his son John Budd Miller. For
reasons I will explain in a moment, I believe Increase may have married in New Canaan,
Fairfield Co., CT sometime between 1799 and 1805. It is not known who his spouse was, and
she is not buried with him at Unadilla Center.
Increase Miller's father Samuel Miller b.10 Apr 1752 in Bedford, NY m.Elizabeth
Raymond. All of Samuel's 10 children (Amazsi, Increase, Anthony, Thomas, Samuel Jr.
, Samuel Jr. , John, Jesse, Uriah, Betsey) were born in Bedford, NY but only one has
a death recorded in Bedford. I believe he may have moved his family to New Canaan
sometime between 1799 and 1805.
Now to explain my assumptions:
Increase's birth appears in the Bedford town records. He likely moved to the New
Cannan, CT area where his son John Budd Miller reportedly was from (source 1: historical
pamphlet about Unadilla Center, NY published in 1930; source 2: birth location of his
spouse). It has never been established when he went to CT, but since John Budd's
birth does not appear in Bedford records, it likely was before 1805. All of
Increase's siblings were born in Bedford, the last being in 1799. His father Samuel
and all but one child of Samuel lack a death recorded in Bedford records, so Samuel likely
took his family, including Increase, to CT after 1799. This places the move of Samuel
between 1799 and 1805 (age 20 to age 26 for Increase Miller). Increase likely met his
wife in CT and was married there in that 6 year window. I only know of two children for
Increase, which are John Budd and Betsey (although more may turn up in CT), so the idea
that Increase's spouse may have died and was b!
uried in New Cannan, CT before himself is quite possible. Increase probably came to
Unadilla Co., NY following the death of his spouse in order to live near his children John
Budd and Betsey, both who had migrated into the Unadilla Center and Butternutts region of
I am seeking any information that may place any of these individuals in New Canaan within
the appropriate time periods. I am also seeking information regarding who Increase
Miller's spouse might be, the date of their marriage, and where she is buried. I also
am seeking information regarding the death of Samuel Miller (date of death, burial
